I'm looking for writers to help me with some fiction I am working on,
or provide some good criticism. Eventually I would like to turn this
story into a novel, but my first goal is to write a short story. I
have read this story over and enjoyed reading it okay, but when I
compare it to the authors you would normally find in a book store it
is lacking the good english usage you find in A++ Novels. So if any
writers would like a job, perhaps I could pay you to help me finish
this short story.. If you are up to the challenge.
Imagine a man so obsessed with dreaming that he keeps a dream journal
every night, and wanders off into his dreams eventually. Waking up in
the mornings only to find that he is still dreaming, until one...

You are about to recieve a few e-mails that will tell you to look at
our FAQ, and to read a few threads before you start posting. We don't
normally crit here. You'd be better off joining fmwriters.org for
that kind of assistance. The only thing they take in trade there, is
that you have to critique other's work as well as submit your own.
That is a good thing, since critiquing other people is probably the
quickest way to improve your own writing, other than just writing a
great deal.

One time I dreamt that I was asleep. And when I woke up I discovered that I
really was.
Is that prophetic, or wot?
So, don't tell me that dreams can't come true.

Try the website http://www.urbis.com
Also, there is much to learn about crafting a novel-length work of
commercial fiction. I recommend the book Self-Editing for Fiction
Writers by Browne and King as the best single source for rules that
publishers use to filter product.
Good luck.

The cross-posting suggests that you might be more interested in the
promulgation of a personal thesis than the creation of literature. But
maybe not; I'll take it that you just want to write a fantasy story.
On this newsgroup, short pieces are sometimes critted, but it's not the
main function of the group, and it's the done thing to have conversed
some beforehand.

Just so happens that I am a writer who has had many short stories
published. I now work as a technical writer--pays the bills.
You have to show, not tell. This is essential. Example:
> Christopher T. Kelly had never ventured far from home. His days
> always felt the same, and he didn't have much or anything to do with
> his time. Always the outsider, without any real job or family to call
> his own. He lived quietly in a group home, depressed and without any
> hope.
Christopher T. Kelly looked at his watch, then out the window again.
He sighed as he watched a man walking with a child. Mom must be at
work, he thought. He smiled as he pictured himself with his own
family, kissing his wife good-bye as he headed for work. Ahh, to live
a normal life. Was it too much to ask for? He looked around to see the
same faces he'd been looking at for some time, day after day, month
after month. No families to be found here.
"You didn't eat a bite!"
Chris looked up to see the familiar face of Nurse Chaplin. "I'm not
hungry."
