I spent a few hours today working on my new painting.
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/59449900/
My mother came in to look at it and spent 20 minuets telling me how
bad it was, and arguing with me over common sense concepts. When she
looks at it she sees something completely different.
I got bunch more art books on using Corel Painter, so I'm going to be
reading them. Hopefully I'll make something she actually likes
eventually. For now I'm going outside to do my meditation rituals.

I told you to draw a picture of your ideal woman. You did not listen to
me nor obey. She would like that.

I thought it looked wonderful! As a graphic designer, I can tell you
that work like that can be marketable.

I do hope you work more with the tutorials for Painter, but better
yet, if you can afford it at some point I would suggest you invest in
Adobe's Creative Suite. It has all the industry standard applications
for you to really shine. The Suite on it's own is very pricey. Do you
have a friend that works for or is full time at a university? You
could purchase thought them for about one third the cost.

When you create, think of your audience, i.e. your client. Are you
creating work to please her?
I think if it makes you happy and it furthers your creative process
and skills, I wouldn't worry about her being part of the equation.
I think you should be your own client at the moment. Be happy! The
"others" in the world are tough bosses.

Create art for yourself, Corey. Don't place all your hopes and dreams
on the criticisms of others.
Art is a selfish pursuit meant to entertain the artist. If the artist
doesn't understand that -- then the art itself will not be good.
