Hello, Im new to Magick and I already read the faq. I have been trying
to learn Magick to create change in me, others, awaken my true
potential, free thought, etc... but it seems like every time I try to
look up an article to learn or a good book to read I always end up in
a deadend at Aleister Crowley, witches, wicca, angles, spirits,
rituals, the golden dawn, the book of the law, or some language I dont
understand. I just want to learn about change/free thought. Do I
really need to go through all of this to learn how Magick creates
change/free thought? Any introductory books to Magick for an
absolute newbie??

So you've been "trying to learn", but every time you come up against
something you "don't understand", you call it a "deadend" and stop? Do
you even the remotest idea what "learning" actually means? You can't
learn something without actually learning it.
> I just want to learn about change/free thought.
I don't think you have even the slightest idea what you "just want to
learn". Do you even know what you mean by "change/free thought"?

Your homework is to travel to a place where you don't speak the
language and the people don't look anything like you and live amongst
them for a few months.
At the end of these months, you should be very aware of how much that
you consider "yourself" is influenced by your culture. Then you can
make decisions on whether you want to keep or change those parts.
You'll be a step closer to "free thought".

I fully sympathize with your impatience at all the occult blather one has to
wade through in order to find some nugget of worthwhile information
regarding magick.

Everybody's path is different and no one way is right or wrong.
Examine all the information you gather carefully and simply take what
'feels' right to you, and discard the rest. It is up to you to decide
what you believe. Heed the wisdom of others, but never underestimate
your own.

I recommend Robert Anton Wilson. (Before Mika does. :-)
Specifically, his book "Prometheus Rising". He has written oodles of great
books, but this one has lots of practical exercises after every chapter.
One caveat though: I think he took Timothy Leary's eight circuit model of
the brain way too seriously. Leary had great ideas mixed with kooky idead,
and it seems Wilson didn't bother separating them before he wrote his book.

While there are lots of books and organizations and private teachers and
classes out there to choose from, i can only recommend what has been of
help to me,
http://www.3ho.org/YogiBhajan.html
For books by, on and about Kundalini yoga and Yogi Bhajan
http://www.kriteachings.org/products.htm#books
There's a lot of pages to navigate, but unless your out in the middle of
nowheresville you should be able to find a 3HO yoga class.

Did you also read all the recommended reading material ?

There are so many things wrong with this sentence.
