Not an "illusion. A "delusion". They were all having a delusion that what
they saw was a supernatural event.

I bet that there were any number of people who saw the same thing and
reached a different conclusion.

But that doesn't mean the "Virgin Mary" will appear to you on a bran muffin
or something.
