Journaling has been central to me, but it didn't occur in the way you
describe. Mine evolved naturally, and as I changed and as I discovered
things by journaling, my journaling changed.
My first journals are collections of musings. At that point in my life
I wished to record my supposedly madhatter scribblings, for posterity.
Over time, as I became interested in politics and discrediting the
Plebian God, my journal turned into a place to analyse and reason. I
then analysed analysis and reason itself. Eventually it turned into
purely analysis of myself and my actions, and then into a form of
meditation.
All people are different, and I imagine the way you describe here
would work for others, but for myself I prefer writing whatever and
whenever I want. For me journaling provides a forum where I can learn
about myself and a source of solace. While I don't know of another
method I could use to the same effect, providing one is doing the
asking, the seeking, and the knocking, I think that other methods may
be equally potent.
