gasp, i hate the word "archetype"
but i am gonna use it
it seems to be an archetype or rather, a theme of the modern world that
evil forces are attacking folks
the only thing an evil force is is a distraction from you dealing with
your own evil forces
if you wouldn't waste your time on unneccessary evil forces and just
conquered your own evil forces you would find that the evil forces are
often good as players on an opposing team in a sports match provided of
course the opposing team is also dealing with their personal demons
else that just means that the other team has extra players (their own
demons plus the haunting demons) or that they aren't really playing the
game well and that's not good sportsmanship
