Has anyone heard of this? There's a new book on the Qabalah that
causing a stir. I'm new at this so I am wondering if this is the way
to
go. People are saying it throws the old system out, but I can't really
believe them.
I found some text and sample pages of the book on this site:

Which old system? It doesn't throw out hebrew gematria, hebrew
gematria is its foundation. You must be referring to its "Crowley's
New Aeon" angle, in which case the system it's "throwing out" has
nothing to do with qabala, english or otherwise.

Why not?
I think you're faking newbie curiosity in order to pimp the book.

HermitLight yahoo.com>:
I've heard of English Qabalah so called before, yes.
Eisen even did a two volume book on it, and it has
become a more popular running title for texts and
essays. the Ulian Schemata kind of laid out the
groundwork, and conventional 'numerology' set the
stage in Euro-American texts as a standard for the
kind of thing which most Hermetic qabalists have
in mind (number-divination).

how did you ascertain that it caused such a stir?
searching for it via google i could only find a
couple of places mentioned and this seems to have
been the publisher and a couple of promoters.
one of these was LaSHtal's board (Thelemic).

some guy:

likely it ditches Kabbalah and installs numerology.

not really if it is conventional. gematria isn't
based on Hebrew language. to do that you'd have
to be transliterating alphabets and taking Hebrew
as the basis, substituting English letters for it,
which few do who use the phrase "English Qabalah"
that i've ever seen.
that would start off like this:
A
B
G
D

What the fuck are you talking about?
Quote a verifiable academic reference that explains the origins of
gematria that supports your statement.

It caused a stir in at least one person, the author. Probably not in many
others, though.

Well, there you go. It caused quite a stir among those who are selling the
book, too.
