Can anyone think of a curse or hex that involves a box with pictures
of three kids, chalk, and a coin?
maybe some other material too.

Sure. You can construct a curse with almost any sort of material. The idea
here is to construct some sort of symbolic representation of the curse in
operation. Pictures, some chalk, and a coin placed in a box may mean all
sorts of things like that.
Are you sure it's a curse, though? Might it possibly be a blessing? Or
maybe it's just a box where somebody decided to store some stray stuff. If
you look in my junk drawer, I'll bet you could find ingredients for all
sorts of potential curses and blessings.
Or is this an image you saw in a dream or something?

Were the pictures untouched? Is that all there is in the box? What was
the value of the coin?
If so, then it is a sympathetic blessing that attracts wealth and
education to the three kids.

The three kids are not in the family though. It was a friend from 5th
grade, another kid i went to school with, but we weren't really
friends, and a little girl. I was friends with her brother, but they
moved when she was four. Now what confuses me, is these are all school
pictures.
i dont even know why they are in the house. One of the peices of
sidewalk chalk has been flattened out and looks like it has something
etched in it. The coin is from a vacation my parents went on for an
anniversary. there are also flower seeds, a packet of irish cream
coffee creamer, the box has an angel on it.

If the pictures are not tampered with, I would still suggest that this
is some kind of wish for long-term happiness.
Perhaps a parent's wish for their child to have many friends?
This box and its strange contents conform perfectly to the principles
of sympathetic magick, especially Voudoun.

Without specifics it is difficult to answer the question;
- are the photographs marked in any way ?
- what colour chalk ?
- what type of metal is the coin made from ?
- what value is the coin ?
- is the coin marked in any way ?
- is the box marked in anyway ?
- was the box sealed ? if so how ?
A curse can be constructed using those ingredients but the question remains
as to why someone would curse children (or involve them in the curse at
all)...............

Personally, I would question whether there's anything magickal about
it at all.It could just be something odd left over from someone
cleaning up a room and having bits and pieces left over and only a box
to put them in. God knows I do things like that when I'm cleaning up
my kids' rooms.
If it is magickal, I agree with Ren, but it's more Hoodoo than
Voudoun.
At the least, the probability of it being a bad luck spell is very,
very low. If you're really concerned about it, douse the lot in holy
water and say something like, any ill-intent in this box, begone.

If that were possible for the querant, would they have posted here
about it?
But your question makes me wonder, do you believe in magickal
practice? What kind of practice do you employ, if any? Is it all
mental gymnastics for you?
Personally, I invest a lot into the symbols I use. I time things by
the locations of the planets and stars, I work with the seals from the
15th century, and perform adapted rites from the solomonic grimoires
and the works attributed to Trithemius and Agrippa. Based on my
understanding of Agrippa, there's a thread that can be traced from
your statement above to the magickal theory of the western mystery
tradition, tenuously, if you expand on his statements about the role
of intent in conjuring spirits.
