13-50 people may sound like a big range, but it's really not (in my
opinion). So the '-who-' of your audience - Most children's hospitals,
patients are usually under the age of 17...and obviously since it's
their kid, the parents (ages 30-40) are usually hovering close by
(unless they have a crack problem..they might be absent trying to score
a rock, but I guess you're probably in a suburban area [i'm kidding])
..
So treat it like a kid's show, but more family oriented. As you know,
in kids shows it doesn't have to be mind blowing magic (as a matter of
fact, your magic can suck - as long as you enterain them, they'll be
happy). Don't go over 30 minutes unless it's an older group - kid's
attention span are sometimes harder to hold on to after 45 minutes.

Instead of a series of 'tricks' can you make them flow together as
routines? Your thumb tip, silk, and change bag can be used together
nicely!! I don't know how many small silks you have but keep a small
one hidden in the collar of your shirt, one in your pants pocket, and
one in your hand you vanish. You maybe even to fool people who know
what a 'thumb tip' is by vanishing them and having them reappear in
differnt spots and keeping one ahead (you can end, for example, with
you producing the last silk from your mouth)..By having a few small
silks, you can place them in a change bag (with an audience helper) to
make one big silk or have them change into different colors.
Your 'Airborn floating bottle' can you think of other related trick
with fluid? slush powder, foo can..this can also give you a nice segway
to other fluid tricks (like soda..if you don't have a few already)
Rope routines are priceless too, they can work for small and big
audiences too. Do you have a magic coloring book? If not, email me -
you can usually get and ordinary coloring book for 49-99 cents and
gimmick it. works good with kids too. If there are a lot of younger
kids, the more chance you can employ a volunteer the better
Your snow storm...eh, unless you clean up afterwards i'm not really a
big fan of it..but if it's you, I say do it.it's also a good ending
too. The appearing candle and snow storm both have a holiday theme to
them, so you can work them in together.
Don't use latex balloons in the hospital unless it's ok. Some people
are deathly allegeric to them. If they use latex gloves, I can
recommend 1/2 dozen baloon animals you can make just from a glove. and
if your really daring, I can recommend on how to gimmick equipment they
use in a hospital. Even a tongue depressor .. you can draw different
faces and make them change a lo paddle move.
Just let us know how it goes, people always come here for advice and
never follow up. I hope you'll be the exception!
