DUELING HOUDINI FILMS 3/2/7
After a year of competing magic films on the big screen, ("The
Prestige" and "The Illusionist") we are about to enter anoher with
dueling Houdini films. According to
Slashfilm.com, "Walden Media has
hired Brett Merryman (The Good Mother) to write a screenplay for
Houdini. Houdini takes place in modern day. A 14-year-old boy
discovers he's a descendant of Harry Houdini and embarks on a quest to
unravel the secrets of his ancestor's past." In addition, "The
Weinstein Co. picked up U.S. rights to Gillian Armstrong's (Little
Women) supernatural romantic thriller Death Defying Acts, which stars
Catherine Zeta-Jones and Guy Pearce, who plays escape artist Harry

RICKY JAY MOVES TO MUSIC 2/23/7
The Phoenix has published an interesting interview with Ricky Jay
where they discuss his amazing sleight of hand as well as the release
of his new CD/DVD Set "Ricky Jay Plays Poker." When asked if his
career was a boyhood dream come true, Jay responds, "Oddly, no. I was
around sleight of hand so much as a boy that it wasn't some
unattainable goal. My grandfather was a terrific amateur magician, and
top magicians were his friends. And I started performing at such an
early age that I never gave it much mind and thought I'd eventually
turn to other things. So it's nothing I aspired to. At one point my
fantasies when I was in high school were to write a piece for the New
Yorker and to be in a James Bond movie. I'm far more amazed I've done
both of those! "
