Because this group is in such dire need of resusitation I thought I'd
start a few posts/threads I'll call, for lack of a better title: YOUR
FAVORITE TRICKS WITH...
You don't need to spill any secrets, just add your ideas with props,
principles, sleights, etc.
I'll start this one off with my favorite tricks with the 'Napkin Roll
Switch". If you don't know what that is then get someone to teach it
to you or find it in a book.
Here are a few to get this post started:
Favorite tricks with the NAPKIN ROLL SWITCH:
1) Take a plastic straw, remove it from its paper wrapper. Lay the
wrapper and straw side by side on the open napkin. Roll the two up
together, then pull open the corners and the straw is back inside the
wrapper...sealed to boot.
Side Note: I prefer a colored CLOTH napkin to a paper one. It's
heavier, opaque, and the color is a nice contrast to the object you're
using.
2) I posted this one years ago under the title "El-Sporko". The trick
is this: You take a white plastic fork and spoon, wrap them both up in
the napkin togther. Pull the diagonal corners apart and when the
napkin opens the damn thing has morphed into one of those spoon/fork
(spork) like they give you at Kentucky Fried Chicken. The next time
you're at KFC cop a couple extra ones for our trick.
An additional idea to the above is to cause a plastic spoon or fork to
go back inside its wrapper...again completely sealed. Wendy's has
there plastic cutlery inside clear plastic cellophane. And their
yellow napkins work pretty well for the napkin.
3) Wrap up a white fork in the napkin. Reach in and pull out a long
string of white flexible plastic. Open the napkin and the fork is now
CLEAR plastic, you've apparently removed the color. You could use a
roll of paper, or maybe even a straw wrapper. I stole a white streamer
from a little girls bicycle handle grip one day while feeling
especially ornery. Works great for my trick.
You could do the same with colored straws, making them into clear
straws, etc.
4) Lay a few colored rubber bands and two pencils side by side on the
napkin. Roll everything up together. Unroll and the two pencils are
tightly banded together with the rubber bands. This is where things
begin to get spooky.
You could also band both pencils together, unroll and one pencil has
vanished.
5) Use two napkins and cause objects to appear, vanish, or transpose
from one napkin to another.
Ok, you get the basic idea. If you need any help then break out your
copy of the TRICK BRAIN. Then pour out your box of junk (aka
Inventor's Kit) onto the kitchen table and start fooling around with
objects.
Cause objects to MORPH or MUTATE into a single object (lke the spork.
Cause one object to penetrate another object (like the straw and
wrapper). Cause objects to change places...or be n two places at the
same time (quantum weirdness). Use your imagination, the only thing
holding you back is the permission you grant yourself!
