Lou Tannen's Magic Shop

Anybody been there since they moved into the 30's?

Has it improved in any way?

Last couple of times I was there, I asked for an 18 inch dye tube and
the clerk tried to sell me a 12 inch, claiming that he was "out" of 18
inchers!

He also couldn't sell me a set of sponge balls because "a clown came
in and bought our entire stock for a magic class!"

I might have bought that one, except, after selling me a copy of
"Genii," he told me he was unable to sell me a copy of "Magic" because
they were "fresh out." (I later found out that Tannen's was no longer
on the list of places "Magic" was available at!)

This was back when they were in the 20's. Has there been any
improvement?

I ask mostly because I really hope there has, but also because I want
some damn thread on this board to be magic related!!!!

Into the 30's? In the 20's? What does that mean? I'm pretty sure I've
had enough caffeine today but ya never know...

Standard New York City idiom. Tannen's Magic Store has moved from
somewhere between 20th Street and 29th Street to somewhere between 30th
Street and 39th Street (specifically, it is now at 45 West 34th Street).

People who frequent New York City often refer to locales in the city
by the numbered blocks in which they are located. For example, if
someone lived on 74th street, they may say, if asked by another city
dweller/frequenter, that they live "in the 70's."

Tannen's recently moved from what is referred to as the toy district
(there are a lot of toy manufacturers/wholesalers headquartered in
that area) in the 20's to their new location on 34th Street (hence, in
the 30's) right near Herald Square. Coincidentally, the new location
is literally right down the hallway from the old location of
Flosso-Hornmann Magic which closed, sadly, with the passing of Jackie
Flosso.

Thanks. I thought that could be the case but didn't have any context to
apply it since I hadn't known that Tannen's had moved locations.

I would have immediately asked for proper clarification. By clown,
did he mean "a coarse, ill-bred person" or a "cirrus performer"? On
second thought, he probaly was "a coarse, ill-bred cirrus performer"
for taking all the sponge balls. I propose a new word...a balown,...a
bastard clown.

Hehe, have you seen the tshirt at tshirthell.com that says "Rape isn't
funny. Unless you're raping a clown"?? Seems fitting. I have a couple
friends who are clowns for the circus and they absolutely love the shirt.

Be warned, most of everything on tshirthell.com is NSFW and probably not
safe if you're not single or you have a humor deficiency. Not talking
about you here, Al, just making sure no one decides to check it out at
work.
