Leary's Book of the Month Selections

It's been awhile since I've posted one of these lists. These are what
I consider the best books I read last few months. I read a lot of
books, usually about 5 at a time (not all at once, that would require 5
brains and 5 sets of eyes). With the exception of the first one, all
the res are non-magic books. I won't bore you with too many details,
but if you're looking for some fantastic reads this is a primo list of
killer reads.

I pick books based on how much new information I learned. The book
must be densely packed with new and novel info, sometimes requiring the
reader to stop and think about what is being conveyed on each age.
These books contain NO FLUFF, only the best of the best. And as
stated, the learning must be intense.

Here then is that list of books:

-DESIGNING MIRACLES: Creating the Illusion of Impossibility by Darwin
Ortiz. If you are a fan of Darwin's book, STRONG MAGIC, you won't be
disappointed. This is "volume 2". I wouldn't be surprised to find
that the CIA uses this as a textbook on deception. Excellent job
Darwin!

I always found Kevin Hogan to be a bit of a goofball in that when he and
I used to chat from time to time in alt.psychology.nlp, he'd never seem
to understand the easiest of questions, or he was being extremely
evasive. BUT he did have the balls to say that NLP's eye accessing cues
just might be bullshit in a study he performed; the actual study
suggested that the cues didn't work as had been previously suggested and
that there would be more study necessary to see if they worked at all;
he never followed up on that AFAIK which seems to suggest he just gave
up on the idea of the cues. Anyway, he does have some good tidbits here
and there so I do recommend reading his books...just don't chat with
him..heh.

I'm fine with any definition of "hack" that does NOT include "script
kiddies" and their decidedly, lack of creativity in manipulating
technology. Captain Crunch hacks; Kevin Mitnick hacks; Phiber Optik
hacks; Robert Tappan Morris hacks; those kids who run botnets to
shutdown places like ebay simply suck donkey balls.

Yeah, that's Kevin.

Mitch,

I forgot one of the best recommendations there are and one which ties
into the Robert Anton Wilson thread.

Philip Farber and his "How to be a Megalomaniac" series of videos as
well as his books. I'm fond of FutureRitual myself. The guy's brilliant
and used to hang with RAW; can't beat that for a combo.

I found FutureRitual over on Amazon but couldn't find the megalomaniac
book written by Farber. They had another book with that title by some
other clown, definately not the same book though.

By chance is it a New Falcon Publication? Most of those kind of books
are put out by that company. New Falcon is right here in Tempe where I
live. I went looking for them oe day, turns out they are a business
run out of a post office box. I get their e-mails all the time and
they put out some great books and dvds.

"O'Reilly's Hacks Series reclaims the term "hacking" for the good guys —
innovators who explore and experiment, unearth shortcuts, create useful
tools, and come up with fun things to try on their own."
