Actually he does use a double for the armored car shoot. This person is
seen briefly on the side of the cloth just prior to sliding under the
vehicle. For that quick flash, with the camera at that distance, he
wouldn't need someone who looked exactly like him.

The human candle thing and the trash can effect used editing to make it
appear that he moved from one place to another faster than a speeding
bullet.

I can think of three tricks where David Copperfield used a double. The
obvious one is the motorcycle vanish and reappearance in the middle of
the crowd. DC puts the helmet on, walks over to the side curtain, and
the switch is made.

Aanther DC switch was made during a trick where he appears under one of
three large cloths after stepping inside a box. This one was a
"bare-faced" switch, nothing covering the face. The stage was smokey
with fog and the switch worked very well.
