his arm to superimpose it on the prerecorded video, and the other guy
had to hand off his polaroid picture for the same reason... it doesn't
really matter who went first... they had all of that time while the
prerecorded stuff on the beach was playing to get to where they needed
to be...

You right I didn't mentioned the backstage work but people should
think about that automatically. Because David had more work to do
(backstage, reappear) that is why he needed to go first from the
cabin. He had only a certain time to get the reappearing pont don't
forget that. The other guy had time becouse after the disappearing no
one ever see him in the show.

It's only a couple of seconds difference though...
All of the "backstage" work is prerecorded... they are just playing a
tape...
hell, he had time to get a massage and have a smoke before he had to
reappear...
but it doesn't really matter who went first, and we are speculating
about things that we will never have a way of knowing for sure.

when i was younger my magic friend and i went to see DC. we had seen
him the year prior so we knew what to expect. when we found our seats
the seat behind us had been taken out and there was a black box in its
place. the top if the box was like a grate. my friend and i just knew
that david was already in that box and the guy on stage was gonna be a
look-a-like. so we were being stupid and talking to the box as if
there was someone in it. when DC vanished we knew that man was commin
out of the box, but he never did. while the recording was playing a
man in a black cloak with the hood on and long hair (frankly, it
looked exactly like a mop for hair) sat down beside the box. he was
escorted by 2 people who looked like they worked for the theater. my
friend and i were looking right at him. then the cloak and mop dropped
and DC hopped up on the box. then a fan from inside the box turned on
(to make his hair all flowy) and a light turned on, he poured a fist
full of sand out (thankfully not on us) and was all david dramatic. it
was the one time i was glad to sit in the back. we felt kinda bad for
blatantly staring at him, but we just had to watch. and yes, he was
sitting there for about half of the video on the big screen, so he did
have time to spare.

yep time misdirection
hey when i saw dc do portal llusion live at cryler hall in norfolk
virginia mitch leary told me in email and in post in alt.magic.secrets
look at all those light bulbs on the platform there is a mirror under
the plate form that they are standing on and they go down a chute
it opens up so quick and closes up so quickly you cant see it but if
you know where to look you can see it
psso i know ll this inputt so when dc done portal illusion i look with
very god high teck biknoculars i saw lots of bright light bulbs on
plat form i could still see in back i can see very thing black chut
box coverthing and under the platfom they are standing on there is a
wire mesh with wholes in theme i guess to breath air in ? or some
person under stage to peek thru?
anways just as the curtain gets closed all of a sudden somthing pop up
auto matically to blockmy view of the wire mesh? then i tried to look
for the black box chute at the bac of portal plate form i could not
see it now?
then i realized what happene that mirrors sprang up on all sides of
platforn that dc ad asstasitin was on and then the puzzle was complete
mitch leary was right why all those bright light bulbs:)
so it gives the illusion of empty ness
like lady with out a middle side show idea version uses bright light
bulbs to hide mirrors:)
gives illusion your seeing all the ay to the back of stage or all the
way thru the girl idea in box
john gon illusion builder helped david set kot kin copperfield build
the statue of libery vanish illusion and his flying like peper pan
idea nasa clear fine wire rigging he took old floating in mid air
ideas and brought it into todays ideas combo ideas
to hid wirs putt gun bluing solution on wires and put blue jell on the
fload lights
i like how don wayne illusionist builder said on the bighrpgy on david
copperfield on A&E
channel the way we move things are calulastion was off so the arm of
the statie was still showing so david had to add more cloth the towers
as he telling this cool info he showing this idea model by using his
own hands to explaine this
that they say cpperfield plans to make the real moon vanish with the
help of illusionist andre kiole, and make a island dissapear, make a
girs face appear on munt rush more, and strighten out the tower of
pizza

then right after that is special guest illusion specia with cool
singnin christian guy glenn cambell
and doug starts the show withthe same illusion witch im glade cause
its muh better i guess the other special the person vcr had truble at
the time or tv station at the time?
anays im thanful to JESUS i got both of these ideas NBC specials and
i like how dougg henning walked thru a solid brick wall
my guess is use mirrrors that come up from under the stage so he can
go from left side of stage to the right side of stage from the back
area

to kinda see everythng bbutstill it makes mirrors look not there at
all ideas
and fake hands thatmove ordebbieplays asdougs hands as he waveshis
hands in the air shouting 1,2,3 now!

I don't intend to disparage DC but he is a preformer. Yes he has soh
and other magicians skills but he did not invent the statue vanish.
Jim Steinmeyer developed the idea for Doug Henning in the late
seventies before Doug took his transindental trip. Doug turned down
the illusion because he felt the public would not accept camera
tricks. DC had no problem with whatever it takes to make magic on tv
and did the illusion, got all the credit and the money. Although JS
was well paid I am sure.
The point is, like so many other illusions this one belonges to
Steinmeyer.
