I'm interested in learning more about this vanishing trick, which
seems essentially the same as the first part of Spirits (getting the
people in and out of the the room). Except, with Voyeur on the live
TV
performance, the background is not dark, there are people sat all
around the stage, and the platform has no hiding space. Obviously,
I'm
not posting a 'tell me how it's done' message because that's idiotic,
but I'd be interested in being pointed in a direction to learn more
about this particular method.
Any information would help! Thanks.

My memory of that television special is that there were several things
he
did, the laser-cutting-himself-in-half thing comes to mind, that could
not
really be performed surrounded without the people in back seeing the
secret.
At the time, I seem to remember people speculating that the seats
behind him
had fake people, cut-outs or whatever, or that they were industry
people, or
just audience members who got treated to seeing the workings of a few
tricks, all for the benefit of making the home viewer believe that
those
effects had no secrets that could be seen from the rear. In fact, if
you
were back there, you'd have seen it all. So when trying to work out
this
particular illusion, don't let your thinking be constrained by a
false
assumption.

I really appreciate your post. I was already contemplating either
video editing or plants. Which is really sad. I know perfectly well
how to do these tricks, but I thought he'd found a different way.
After watching for so many times, I've concluded it wasn't live. :-(
Still the timing was perfect! Oh, and I really liked the reappearance
stage - although the trick is simple, it's beautifully performed.

Voyeur was performed routinely in DC's live show for years. No
audience
behind it and the background was dark. You could also hear a snap
sound.
Still the timing was remarkable. I saw it twice live.

If you really want to be disappointed, study the first illusion when
he is
produced from falling curtains. Notice that the left back edge of the
board
is cut off for a while and the board is held at a steep angle for a
while.
These were not coincidences. Think paid audience.
