They never came to AMS in the same numbers as they did to alt.magic.
Simon Lovell, Mike Rogers, the Pendragons and others who used nyms
all used to congregate and have a few laughs.
What really clobbered them most of all was seeing their own names
being trashed. Even if they used a nym, when someone bashed
Copperfield they were bashing the real many behind the nym and it
drove the big names off in droves. I've always felt that the problem
is directly related to using a nym. For the shy (yes, even the pros
can be shy), a nym is a blessing. For the evil, it's a shield. It
allows the morons the ability to cast stones and remain in what they
feel is an invincible position. Folly, of course, but truth.
