i echo Porters comments-it is a fantastic book by a great thinker and
designer of Illusions

he seemed to be a very arrogant chap at times and the cut throat
competition between the great Magicians of the Vaudeville period comes
through

his Bangkhok Bungalow is in there and the Jarret Pedestal along with
some other gems

i got mine from Jim Steinmeyer so i could get a signed copy from the
great man himself-Jim that is!

Guys if you ever have a chance to get the Greater Magic by John
Northern Hilliard buy the book. This book is out of print but
sometimes you can see a copy here or there. It is expensive book but
worth. I try to get a hold of one copy for years and have no luck. I
heard the book is about 1200 pages and everything in about magic. Here
you can see the book.

I would guess that the space is between 7-8 inches thick. This should
be enough room to fit a skinny assistant, or dancer. Everyone is
different, so the thickness of deceptive bases are going to vary from
performer to performer.

BTW, I borrowed the Complete Jarret book from a friend, and it was a
good read.

i read on the david copperfield "portal" thread that a human body is
only 9 inches in thickness from chest to back, so this sounds like it
could work out, some deceptive bases expand slightly, this is
unnoticed by spectators, and is effective b/c during the time the
magician is showing the box around and letting the audience "inspect"
it, they see the thinness. and later on they dont notice the change.

yea! I got my copy of the Jarrett book! Denny's last one... he said
it's out of print...

the hiding space goes all the way from the top edge of the chrome
frame of the box to the bottom of the horizontal rail below the table
top... that's probably a good 9 inches or so... it's hard to tell
since there is nothing in the pic to judge the distances from...

the depth is cleverly masked by making it look like a definitive box
on a little castors on top of a table.the use of the metallic strips
horizontally help define this and also disguise further depth.and the
use of different "layers" etc helpos dissguise the depth and confuse
the brain into thinking it is "thin"

the base could also be designed as per the "wedge principle" and is
deeper at the back than the front as you see in the great "Jarret
book" and the "Bangkhok illusion"

with the wedge principle as long as the back of the box wasnt shown it
would be possible to have the box actually sat on the table and a gap
undrneath,when the cloth is pulled over the front the assistant could
appear from the base up thro a spandex trap and into the crystal
casket obviously been careful they didnt step back thro the the base
of the box.

however i think this effect just involves the use of black material
under the horizontal lowest piece of the casket

on stage against a dark background as QeD states it would be hard to
discern the actual thickness without getting very close up which you
wouldnt be able to usually!

and of course when products are advertised they can be placed in such
a way which doesnt for obvious reasons give an incline to how it is
constructed.

ps pray for the teen boys and teen girls and marktaylor and patty
taylor and mark baily and pam baily as they get up thursday morning at
4:00am to get to church at godnewsbaptist church to get
everythingloaded p in church van extc to get to the airport and fly
off to ARUBA
to Meet the chapels Howard and Joyce chapel and there son steven to
get the idea of how to soul win for Jesus IN THE MISSION FIELD:) as
our paster coles said last nite thats wednesday nite 2008 anways like
i was saying paster coles said we all should pray that they make there
in ARUBA safe and sound and that they the teens dont get sick that
would not bee good for the kids or the parents pray they stay healthy
and pray that lots of children aruba get saved and that the teens will
bea blessing for everyone there including the CHAPPELS
ps paster colles added that howard said to pray that everything goes
well for his son stevens Job his son steven will be3 heading to
pencilvainia for this Job:)
ps paster coles said and new german david prowse i thinksits his name
he added input to what paster coles said he added that we should pray
for stevens parents its very hard to see there children leave long
distance but just like we parnts do we get over it but we still will
miss them right folks everyone says right amen!:)
PS FOLKS i let the teens know that im praying for theme and thn i
said you know when illusionist david cpperfield made th jet air plane
vanish he said he wasnt responsible for luggage:)

ps paster coles added that while the teens are in aruba karl stevens
wich by the way karls is very good with children its amazing how he
does it everyone said yeah and that he still neeeds some helpers

lotsof children allready come to VBC vacation bible school:)
at frst the count was 116 then 140 and now i hear friday camp out
there gonna be 160 children and a lot of parents have started to come
to our church cause of vacation bible school everyone said amen and
glory!
and then paster said thesse two couple here on the far right i don
mean to im bearresest you folks but see theese folks they came to
nite cause somone came knocking on there doors to ask if ther son
could come to vactio bible school and the could added yeah and its
ok thn they went indeatial where they live cool
ps extra iover heard there conversayion in the foyer area as we were
talking to the teens heading to aruba
and me getting a dvd christian movie in the libarry to check out a i
done that the couple got ther son afterchurch and the boysaid are we
going home? and the dad sad yes and you are comming here tommorrw to:)
and the boy said yeah ps i came up to the boy and said see this
quarter watch its gone now is behind your ear:) and i left the boy
after i did that the boy gave a huh? look:)

ps paster tubed 70 years old this year we clebrated his birthday a

hunter would you like to come to vaction bible school? but there is no

brought for us
