What type of threading inserts & tooling are recommended, lay down or on

Thanks for the replies, I also liked the idea of the lay down style of
inserts because I could get an insert for 8-48 tpi for odd stuff and get the
full profile inserts for the threads I run most often. Some of my work will
be making cylinder rods and the 2 rods in most demand can be taken care of
with one insert each. One rod has 3/4-16 thread on each end, the other has
7/16-20 on one end and 1/2-20 on the other end.
