Re: Carrier Performance 93 Furnace Installed By Sears

If you have a traditional water heater with metal venting, you may
have to reduce the chimney flue size to get the proper draft for the
water heater. B-vent does not need a liner. Clay lined chimneys need
a liner.

But now that the furnace is out of the picture, your flue size is
determined strictly by the btu's of the water heater and the height of
the chimney. It may be oversized.

If you have to reduce the size of the flue, you may want to consider
putting that same money towards upgrading the water heater to a high
efficiency unit that vents out the side of the house in PVC.

Your next water heater will most likely be a high efficiency unit
anyways, so why waste money modifying your old flue?

Bottom line, check local codes for venting requirments for your size
water heater.

Re: Does the washer create pressure when draining?

Yes your washer will pump enough pressure to reach the ceiling. Ir
you're draining into a sink, just make sure the pipe along the ceiling
slopes towards the sink. Plus, the end of the drain pipe at the sink
must terminate above the maximum water level of the sink. Code
normally calls for a 2" pipe when a washer drains into a standpipe.
But you should oversize the pipe along the ceiling to prevent
backup--washers drain a lot of water very quickly. A long pipe will
cause pressure loss.

If you were going to tap this pipe into the drain system, the washer
hose would have to go into an air gap first to meet code. This is
usually done by installing a P trap in the joist area of the ceiling
and then running the line into the stack.

But if you can live with the drain running into the sink, you should
be ok.

According to the sheet I got from the TV converter box coupon agency,
that one does have analog passthrough (both the 900 and the 901).

When was anyone called stupid? He just said the other way looks stupid.

OK, he insulted a duplex outlet just because it's orientation is different.
In some states it is a Hate Crime to discriminate because of orientation.
He should expect to be served with a lawsuit from the National Brotherhood
of Duplex Outlets shortly.

We can read his mind? I think not. Pick up the phone, and call the guy. What
kind of goof would ask internet strangers to make a ruling on what a local
guy (a man of authority) meant?

It means add hotdogs and sausages to the box, and then fill the voids with
mustard. And don't take no from the local code guy if he doesn't like
mustard.

I was told by a city code office employee via email that I only need a
permit "If you want to add/upgrade electrical receptacles".

My plan, as part of a basement bedroom remodel, is to replace an existing
metal box receptacle with a metal box slightly bigger, and to more securely
(tapcons, wood) attach it to the masonry wall, rather than the shoddy way
the builder did it (cut nails on scrap plywood).

If it is the cold control, they are not too dificult for me to replace. But,
then, I've got family who can fix anything, and I've employed by a couple
guys who had jobs for me that required a lot of repairs and electrical.

HD has an appliance parts hotline. I've never called them, as I get mine
wholesale from a bigger parts house.

Is it a H.O. job? I dunno. It is, if you're mechanically and electrically
minded.

Just be sure it's really the cold control that's the problem.
