  More High School Guitar Videos

Finally finished editing all of our videos. Here is an overture by
Tchaikovsky for quartet. These are all kids in the guitar program at
Servite High School:

While this is the 'loosest' of the groups, note the underlying
quality
present in all of the seven videos

Did I have a bunch of super talent bequethed to me by the universe?
No. Am I such a magical teacher that I was able to perform a miracle?
No. Like any competent teacher I used a system of assessment and
assessment tools to keep everyone on track. We don't marvel at it
when
a math or science teacher does it.

  Chords and Capo?

Author: Ernie Willson
Date: Jul 2, 2008 14:28

In a songbook I have The song "Fare the Well (ten thousand miles)". At
the top is says "Key:F, Capo 4th, Play D", and then beside each chord
marking there is another chord. For example the chord G is listed as
G(D). Does this mean that with the capo in the 3rd fret position, and
fingering a G chord relative to the capo, that you are really in an
actual D chord? I can't understand what this means. Help!

Chances of buying a really fine guitar

Author: Paul P

It seems to me that buying a really good guitar, one of the ones that
stand above the others even within the same make and model, is just
about impossible for us mere mortals. I think a good analogy is
trying to acquire good tickets for a concert. Ever notice that even
if you've slept on the sidewalk all night and are the first person
through the door the only tickets left are up in the peanut gallery ?
The good tickets have already been taken by all the employees,
promoters and their families, friends and their friends, and the vips
and their families and friends and their friends.

I think it's the same thing with guitars. I'm pretty sure most
guitars coming into a guitar shop are tried out by the owner or
employees when they arrive, or at least when they're being put on
the rack. If I were an employee in a shop I'd spend my slack time
noodling on all the different guitars. What if they notice that
one really shines in the way it plays or the tone it produces.
Will it get put on the rack with the others to be beaten up by all
the local bums or will it be put aside to show to friends and
family and friends of friends. Maybe if none of these are interested
would it be put out to the general public.
