It seems to me that buying a really good guitar, one of the ones that
stand above the others even within the same make and model, is just
about impossible for us mere mortals. I think a good analogy is
trying to acquire good tickets for a concert. Ever notice that even
if you've slept on the sidewalk all night and are the first person
through the door the only tickets left are up in the peanut gallery ?
The good tickets have already been taken by all the employees,
promoters and their families, friends and their friends, and the vips
and their families and friends and their friends.
I think it's the same thing with guitars. I'm pretty sure most
guitars coming into a guitar shop are tried out by the owner or
employees when they arrive, or at least when they're being put on
the rack. If I were an employee in a shop I'd spend my slack time
noodling on all the different guitars. What if they notice that
one really shines in the way it plays or the tone it produces.
Will it get put on the rack with the others to be beaten up by all
the local bums or will it be put aside to show to friends and
family and friends of friends. Maybe if none of these are interested
would it be put out to the general public.
