  Question

Where I play each week I need to go through a Peavey PA head which
distributes the sound to the house system so the music can be heard in all
areas of the restaurant. I need to be softly heard on the stage as well.
The amplifier I want to use has an effects loop but no line out. I bought a
Peavey EDI unit which takes the signal from the 8 ohm amp's speaker and
produces 600 OHM of balanced output to the mixing console. The Peavey EDI
is a passive unit. It then has a cable from the EDI to the amp's speaker.
I tried it last night and it seems there wasn't a sufficient signal to drive
the Peavey head for the house, even with all volume controls at maximum.
Other amps I use work fine with the line out. But their line out is 1 Volt.
I'm quite sure output from the EDI is dependent on...

  Question

I have a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. Great Amp.... But I just ain't happy with
the sound. I suspect I'd like something with a British slant.... I've yet
to hear a solid state amp that can hold a candle to a tube amp.

So here's the question....

What should I look at to replace the fender with?

Money is a BIG issue.

Also, weight is another issue. I must stay under 45 pounds.

Guitars used are Parker Jazz Fly, Hamer Newport, Fender Showmaster.

Thanks

Anybody here able to shed some light on the quality/sound history of
these tube amps? VintageAxe has a couple of catalog pages (from 1966)
but you have to spend $10. to access and I'm too cheap. Thanks for any
and all help.

Tonight I had sex with a Spider Jam

Okay, I admit it - I bought a spider jam. And in precisely four hours,
I am making the 4 hr journey to the capital to return it, but for all
the wrong reasons. This is my story.

I broke. I just couldn't take it anymore. I bought a Spider Jam. They
didn't have the amp I wanted. No, they didn't even have anything on my
list. This was it, I told myself. I was going tube. I was going to do
it right. I bought a Tony Iommi Epiphone SG, and I was going to get a
Spider Valve and a Marshall TSL. The only question was, combos, heads,
or what. And yes I almost went to Onyx Forge, but I thin the TI Epi is
a great entry level deal. It's quality all the way and I can always
use it as a backup. Great pickups.

  Amp Switch Final solution

Thanks for all the help I've received so far. I've decided to screw
the pod x3 and just get 2 separate amps. This post is a summary of
evertything I've learned so far.

Simple Plan:
Guitar straight into amp A, and hook effects send from amp A into
effects receive of amp B.
How I envision it:
both amps sound the same, or acceptably close (different power amp
circuits I guess), different speakers) for a more "complete", and
"total" -unified- tonescape. I'm praying it won't sound like 2
*completely* different amps.

I envision the master volume on A controls the volume on B as well.

Unknown factor: I am not sure if I need a Y cable to loop back to amp
A. If I do then the complex plan below might not work:

Using a combo amp as a slave?

Author: Renli
Date: Jun 2, 2008 12:22

Hi - I'm wondering if it is possible to use an amp as a slave amp. For
example a marshall tsl 122 and laney TT50 or spider valve 212 maybe. I
was wondering if it was possible to use one amp as an extension
cabinet for the other (or even the other 2) or if anyone had ever done
this with similar or different amps. I'd also like to switch between
them if that isn't to gay- maybe like having both of them slave off
each other with an A/B controller to the inputs. Ideas? Custom wiring?

  Amp Electrocution Problem?

Author: Renli
Date: Jun 1, 2008 08:29

I'm posting this because I'm concerned about the wiring in my home and
how to fix it:

The problem(s) are described on: http://www.guitarnuts.com/technical/electrical/safety/index.php

I've found some potential solutions on:
http://www.faqs.org/faqs/electrical-wiring/part1/section-33.html

I am looking for comments on the solutions above. Has anyone had this
2 prong outlet problem? How SAFE is a GFCI - or should I get some
custom electrical wiring work done?
