McDonalds sued over Happy Meal toy

Post-punk pioneers Devo say they are suing McDonald's in the US over a
Happy Meal doll that sports the band's signature red flower pot hat.

In April the fast food chain released a series of American Idol Happy
Meal toys in the US based on a range of music genres, including Disco
Dave, Country Clay, Rockin' Riley and Soulful Selma.

Devo's complaint relates to New Wave Nigel, a toy kitted out in an
orange jumpsuit, pink shades, and Devo's "energy dome" hat.

The band also allege that the toy plays a "Devo-esque song".

Bass player Gerald Casale said the band were taking legal action against
McDonald's for using their copyrighted hat without permission.

"We are in the midst of suing them," Casale told AAP.

"This New Wave Nigel doll that they've created is just a complete Devo
rip-off and the red hat is exactly the red hat that I designed, and it's
copyrighted and trademarked.

"They didn't ask us anything. Plus, we don't like McDonald's, and we
don't like American Idol, so we're doubly offended."

Comment was being sought from McDonald's.

“Meet Dave” might be Eddie Murphy’s last big-screen role. The comedian
told “Extra,” “I have close to 50 movies and it’s like, why am I in
the movies? IÂ’ve done that part now. IÂ’ll go back to the stage and do
stand-up.”

ItÂ’s fitting, then, that Murphy cap off his many films in a
larger-than-life way. Murphy’s head — or at least a 15-foot-tall
likeness of it — is on tour. “Heddie,” as the studio is calling it, is
due to make it to Times Square July 3.

The school founded by Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, the New Village
Academy, is set to open Sept. 3 and as is evident in the L.A. TimesÂ’
June 29 piece “Scientology is focus of flap over Will Smith’s new
school,” the Smiths are getting more attention for the possible
affiliation than the fact theyÂ’re starting their own school.

Both Smiths have denied that theyÂ’re Scientologists, but the school is
employing teachers who are part of the religion and is, according to
the L.A. Times piece, using learning methods affiliated with
Scientology. “They deny that they’re part of Scientology, yet at every
turn they seem to be fairly involved,” said a source with ties to the
Smiths.

‘Dark Knight’ premiere not a Ledger tribute

Contrary to some of the buzz surrounding the New York City premiere of
“Dark Knight,” the July 14 event will not serve as a tribute to the
late Heath Ledger, nor will Michelle Williams be attending. In fact,
the attendance of LedgerÂ’s family isnÂ’t certain, according to a rep
for Warner Bros.

In terms of who will be there and the intent of the premiere,
Williams’ rep Mara Buxbaum said, “There is misinformation all over the
place.” One thing is for certain: Williams was never planning on being
at the premiere. “(The premiere) was never on her calendar and she’s
not in the movie. This isn’t a press event for her,” said Buxbaum.
“She’s not going, there is no reason.”

Montag wants to record Christian album

her constant quest for media attention, but Heidi Montag insists sheÂ’s
interested in more than that. In an interview with USA Today, the
reality TV star shared her spiritual side.

“I have been the most religious person since I was 2 years old,”
Heidi, who calls herself “kind of non-denominational Baptist,” said.
“I always felt this crazy connection to God.”

When she was younger, that connection inspired Heidi to dream of one
day devoting her life to God and working as a missionary in Africa.
Now that the 21-year-oldÂ’s on a much different career path, she hopes
to set her faith to music by releasing a Christian album.
