Jesuit Priest Convicted of Molestation: 'I will always be a priest'

The Chicago Sun-Times reports:

*Defiant molester: 'I will always be a priest'*

The Rev. Donald J. McGuire, convicted of molesting two boys, said
Wednesday that he's fighting an effort by Chicago's Jesuits to expel
him from their religious order.

"They can't abandon me," a defiant McGuire told the Chicago
Sun-Times in a rare interview...

The Chicago Jesuits have presented McGuire with a dismissal decree
from the order, which still needs Vatican approval to become
official. McGuire said he has appealed to the Vatican not to allow
the dismissal.

"I will always be a priest," McGuire insisted to the Sun-Times.
"They can't take that away..."

Priest Convicted of Molesting Altar Boy

December 12, 2002

A priest described as having a pattern of sexually inappropriate
behavior toward minors dating back 30 years was convicted in Flemington
of molesting an altar boy.

Father John Banko, 56, became the first New Jersey priest to be charged
criminally in a sex case since the Roman Catholic Church became
embroiled in a national scandal this year.

After less than two days of deliberations, jurors convicted Banko of
aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and child endangerment in the
abuse of the boy, now 20. He could get up to 35 years in prison.

*Priest Convicted on 26 Counts of Molesting Church Altar Boys*

A Roman Catholic priest waived his right to court proceedings Monday and
was convicted by a judge of 26 counts of molesting four altar boys at
his Huntington Beach church.

In a complicated and unusual proceeding, Father Andrew Christian
Andersen, 34, said he didn't want to go through a preliminary hearing
and a jury trial. Instead, his lawyer asked Orange County Superior Court
Judge Luis A. Cardenas to decide his guilt based only on investigative
reports from the Huntington Beach Police Department.

"I just want to thank all of my family and friends and parishioners for
their support," Andersen said before fleeing the courthouse after
Cardenas' ruling. "I look forward to continuing with the judge's
recommendations and taking the appropriate responsibility for my actions
and the opportunity for rehabilitation. . . . I feel remorse and sorrow
over this whole matter."

As a result of the convictions, Andersen could serve up to 58 years in
state prison.

Catholic Priest Robert Larson, Convicted Of Molesting Altar Boys,
To Be Let Out Of Prison

Convicted molester and Catholic priest Robert Larson is being released
from prison. Less than two weeks ago, the attorney general's office
petitioned for Larson to be committed as a sex predator. That would have
sent Larson to a state mental hospital indefinitely. Now, in accordance
with the plea agreement made five years ago, the attorney general has
dropped the petition. That means the 76 year old will now live the rest
of his life in a secure, therapeutic facility for priests with personal
problems. Larson will be housed near Saint Louis. In Missouri, he will
be registered as a sex offender with the highway patrol. Larson admitted
to molesting four altar boys from 1984 to 1986, at his Newton church. He
was convicted in 2001, and sentenced to five years in prison. **Full
