Not at all. Burning things grown recently
does not add more carbon to the surface
carbon cycle. Burning coal, oil, or natural
gas which has stored carbon underground for
geologic time, is the problem. This adds to
more carbon to the cycle faster than nature
can sequester it. Then, the fossil fuel
carbon accumulates in the atmosphere as CO2.
Hint: Be sure to add a little PH neutralizer
to the ashes and spread them around. That
mix will work wonders on your lawn's grass.

**Not so much. Decaying leaves will release the same amount of CO2 over a
few weeks anyway. Your local EPA may have something to say about your
activities, however.

What??? The EPA controls burning of leaves? Folks here do it all the time
and we live in the burbs. In fact I'm one of the few people who doesn't
have a fire ring in the backyard.

Carbon in wood is essentially sequestered, it is released
when burned. And also aerosols and soot are created, which
are not environmentally neutral.
Cheers,
