The Idea Is To Make You Poorer

A shock to those who really did think cutting gases would be as painless
as the preachers promised:

AUSTRALIANS must accept that emissions trading is designed to make them
pay more and lower their standard of living, at least where energy use
is concerned, the Reserve Bank governor warns.

What's extraordinary is that no government has yet presented you with an
honest cost-benefit analysis so you can know how much cutting gases will
cost, against how much richer we'll be doing nothing, allowing you to
figure if any climate gains (or losses) are really worth it.

My hunch is you'll find it better to be richer and warmer than poorer
and colder, even if the man-made global warming link is solid.

  Panic More Slowly About Warming

Author: 00ZBN

It seems that runaway man-made warming will actually take a break for
perhaps 15 years:

Global temperatures will drop slightly this year due to the cooling
effect of the La Nina current in the Pacific, UN meteorologists have
said.

The World Meteorological Organization's secretary-general, Michel
Jarraud, told the BBC it was likely that La Nina would continue into the
summer. This would mean global temperatures have not risen since 1998,
prompting some to question climate change theory. But experts say we are
still clearly in a long-term warming trend - and they forecast a new
record high temperature within five years.

Maybe. But if there isn't one then?

I assume now that The Age actually insists all its writers tell
exaggerations and plain untruths to hype up Earth Hour.

Latest evidence is columnist Traceeeeee Hutchison:

Earth Hour was, by all accounts, a tremendous success. Some 40 countries
took part including millions of Australians who saved thousands and
thousands of black balloon-fulls of deadly carbon dioxide emissions and
registered an impressive 11.4%% drop in energy consumption in the
process. Well done us.

Attention, Ms Hutchison. Here are the cold facts, as opposed to your
overheated claims:

The country's power use (as measured by NEMMCO) for that one hour dipped
by four per cent-or 3.2 per cent of normal weekday use. AGL Energy
estimated Victoria's emissions were cut by just 30 tonnes-the equivalent
of taking just eight average Australian cars off the road for a year. In
NSW the cut was estimated at no more than the annual emissions of just
one average Australian.

We are doing well. Both J and I have good jobs ($17 an hr.) Got a
nice 1200 sf. place. The kids even have their own bathroom with a
bathtub .

After the Hell of living in shit hole MO.It makes one appreciate
living in a state (AZ.) that can fix their roads, give a person health
care and pay good wages ($7.00 an Hr. or $17 an hr.) The cost of
living is the same The housing was cheaper in MO.But it cost $10 in
gas to go to the store or to work

so I have a Co. van, a 2007 with a gas credit card and the store (3
supermarkets) are a mile away open 24/7

the people are cool here and my boss thought it was funny and sad That
the nearest town That we use to live near The only thing that it has
going for it Is that it's home of "The Hillbilly Fair"

I guess some people move there So they can feel that they are better
than the people there

the whole time we were there I never heard anyone say "Damn I'm glad
we moved here " Instead I heard " fuck this shit hole We are out of
here "

Koalas threatened as Climate change turns leaves to leather
By Greg Roberts

April 05, 2008 02:37am

Article from:

Eucalypts are becoming inedible
a.. Climate changed blamed
b.. Difficulties ahead for marsupials

KOALAS and other leaf-eating animals face a bleak future, with new
research showing eucalyptus leaves are becoming inedible because of
climate change.

Australian National University science professor Bill Foley says: "What
we're seeing, essentially, is that the staple diet of these animals is
being turned to leather.

"This is potentially a very significant development for the future of
some marsupial populations. Life is set to become extremely difficult
for these animals."

  negative space

Author: miranda
Date: Apr 4, 2008 19:03

what, pray tell, is negative space? please define, give examples,
discuss. I'm really curious. I've heard about this for thirty-five
years but, contrary to expectation, this concept never shaped up into
understanding and usefulness. It's even worse than existentialism
which wafts into my vocabulary and usability about a third of the
time. Of course existential angst or anxiety are almost redundant or,
rather, tautology by too near in meaning of adjective and its noun.

Can someone just bring negative space alive for me? (And thus by the
positivity of this real request we perhaps obviate engagement with the
foreign elements rendering agr another kind of negative
space.)
