There's a reason why Hillary Clinton has remained relatively silent
during the flap over intemperate remarks by Barack Obama's former
pastor, Jeremiah Wright. When it comes to unsavory religious
affiliations, she's a lot more vulnerable than Obama.

The Symbionese Liberation Army was a renegade gang headed by a
meglomaniac, who used a misguided "rob from the rich to feed the poor"
philosophy to build a small cult of followers. They were an
embarassment and disgrace to the more genuine Sixties movements, yet
they received a lot of attention when they kidnapped newspaper
heiress, Patricia Hearst, in 1974...eventually using her to commit
bank robberies.

The trevails of the SLA ended the Sixties era on a bad note...one that
was exploited to the hilt by reactionaries and the then budding
marriage of the Right-wing/Corporate America/Christian fundamentalist
movements.

However, what happened to Sara Jane Olson this week...freed one day,
then imprisoned, due to a clerical goof a few days later...is an
affront to justice. No one is condoning what Olson did as Kathleen
Soliah 30 years ago or so, but she was not the principal player(s) in
that crime, and she has served six years.

Doctor, wife sentenced to 5 years in prison in medical marijuana case

A doctor and his wife from El Dorado County were both sentenced
Wednesday in Sacramento federal court to five years in prison for
conspiracy to grow marijuana and manufacturing it in a medicinal
marijuana case.

U. S. District Judge Frank C. Damrell Jr. said federal law left him
with no choice but to impose the mandatory minimum sentence in each
case.

The statutory minimum applied because a jury in August found Dr.
Marion "Mollie" Fry and attorney Dale Schafer guilty of conspiring to
grow and distribute at least 100 pot plants at their offices in Cool
and their home in Greenwood.

Five Years in Iraq -- What's the Problem?

We know the numbers -- 1 trillion dollars, 5 years, 775 detainees in
Guantanamo, 935 false statements made by the administration, about
4,000 dead Americans, 30-50,000 wounded soldiers, over 100,000
soldiers with treated and untreated PTSD, almost a million dead
Iraqis, 2 million internally displaced Iraqis and up to 3 million
Iraqi refugees who have left the country.

But apparently this is not a problem, as the political elite in this
country do not serve, and the cannon fodder producing communities
across the country do not count.

We do know that no party leadership, Democrat or Republican cares a
whit about the Iraq occupation, whether it is the fifth anniversary,
or the hundredth -- except as it can be used to mobilize a vote or
two.
