Microsoft hoped to pull into the lead, and the failed, following their
recent european price cutting.
Sales surged for the console, but not nearly by enough, and with
Europeans being gaga for Gran Tourismo (1 million pre-orders for
Prologue), the experts predict the PS3 will pull further into the lead
"PS3 and Xbox 360 are pretty much neck and neck at the moment, with
PS3 slightly ahead.".
With Michael Pachter predicting that the 360 will not shift as many
new units as the PS3 during the surge that will be around GTAIV, and
that the 'dlc' wont drive sales of new consoles, rather than uptake of
Xbox Live, things are looking worse than ever for MSs uberkind.
Despite retiling for almost twice as much (360 core sells for £160,
PS3 40gig sells for £299, cheapest 360 Premium is selling online for
£179 and the cheapest PS3 40gig is selling in a catalogue retailer for
£269), and having fewer games (which are often more expensive), the
PS3 is selling more than the 360, even in the UK (which is where this
report was for).
