And so NPD validates that Sony have lied about their sales. Just under
700k were sold during the life of the console - that's some 300k short
of Sony's claim of 1 million. THat means that all those 300k are
sitting on store shelves, warehouses, or in transit to
stores/warehouses!
By contrast, the 360 sold 900k in the same period the previous year -
and we KNOW that was SOLD rather than SHIPPED (since not one could be
found easily until march the following year).
The Wii did very well with 1.1 million sold in north america.
By contrast the 360 outsold BOTH of them COMBINED during the same
period with 1.1 million just for December, and add the 597k sold in
November to make just under 1.7 million.
Of course, NPD does not include certain retailers, or Canada - but this
is the same yardstick Sony used to bash the 360 at launch the previous
year, so you can add about 10%% more on the figures if you like.
Either way, there's NO WAY Sony met it's goals, and it's even less
likely now that they'll sell 6 million by end of march.... that's 4.9
million sales in 3 SLOW months....
