Novice questions

I'm new to CoH and have some probably obvious questions.
I'm not finding lots of good info on the net, at least not well
localized.

First is, what good guides are there out there? By good,
I'm hoping for something similar to WoWWiki for WoW.
I've seen Paragon Wiki but it's very incomplete, and doesn't
have newbie advice, build advice, etc. Even the official site
is very lacking in useful information. (it would be handy to
see pictures of the powers to help decide what looks good)

When a group fights an enemy, do all members get
inspirations, or does only one group member get one?
How are inspirations and influence divided up? If there
is a group, how is XP divided up? If my friend is a few
levels higher than me, will I catch up to his level faster
by soloing or grouping with him?

Don't know about WoWWiki since I've never had any interest in WoW, but
there are numerous guides on the coh forums.

Here is the guide to guides thread with links:

I'll defer to others out there on this one, but Google is your friend.

That's the problem with CoH. It takes a long time to learn everything,
and you only learn it by studying all the info that's available.

You're really not going to find any one comprehensive guide. Your best
bet is to check the guides & faqs board on the official board, and
also the guide lists on the board for the archetype you're wanting to
play.

Also, search with a timeframe of the last 6 to 12 months on the
keyword "R_M's" in the subject line for guides & FAQs. That'll get you
all the guides I wrote, which should give you a bit more information
than you already had. Especially the "XP Gain" guide.

I was hoping to avoid any and all "web forums" :-)
I'm an old usenet person, and I've never felt
good having to use a web forum.

If I see in one of the tabbed windows
"[Broadcast] SuperDave: I'm looking for someone to run
an experiment on", I can just click somewhere on
"SuperDave" and hit comma? When I've tried this before,
I got no feedback that the click had done anything.

No. Once you've started a conversation with someone, you can hit
Backspace to reply to them. There are actually two commands (one added a
few revisions into the game): one that lets you reply to the last person
who sent you a tell, and one that lets you reply to the last person you
sent a tell. This can be useful when you're, for example, soliciting for
a team buildup and you're getting tells from multiple players.

One quick-ish way to call up someone for a tell without typing in their
name is to type "/sea Joe" where 'Joe' is the first three letters or so
of their name. This will pop up the search window with just those
characters whose names begin with 'Joe' - very useful, especially when
the spelling is, uh, creative. You can then right-click on the name in
the list and click "Chat" to start a tell.

Well yes, me too--but I can tell you right now, if you don't start,
you're just cutting your nose to spite your face; that's where the
accumulated wisdom of CoH players of the ages ends up. 75%% to 80%% or
more of everything useful that's ever been written about City of
Heroes gameology is right there.

What's the latter one? I'd never heard of that.

/reply starts a message to the last person you received a tell from.

/telllast starts a message to the last person you sent a tell.
