US wants more Rodin, less Lenin in Martin Luther King statue
WASHINGTON (AFP) — US officials have asked a Chinese sculptor to rework
a statue of black civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr that will
stand on the National Mall in Washington, to make it look less like Lenin.
"The sculpture has departed somewhat from what was depicted in the
concept design and the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) has raised some
concerns," Thomas Luebke, secretary of the CFA, told AFP.
"The specific advice is that we would like to see the sculpture
recapture some of the character in the original design," he said.
The original design, approved in 2006, showed a "dynamic, meditative"
King who appeared to be emerging from the "Stone of Hope", part of the
memorial which is expected to be finished in about five years, Luebke
said in a letter last month in which he aired the commission's concerns
about the statue.
"The development as shown now features a stiffly frontal image, static
in pose, confrontational in character, and appearing as if it had been
affixed to the surface of the 'Stone of Hope'," the letter said.

Obama Overtakes Clinton in Race for Superdelegates (Update3)
By Catherine Dodge and Julianna Goldman
May 11 (Bloomberg) -- Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama won endorsements from
five superdelegates yesterday, erasing rival Hillary Clinton's long-held lead in backing
from party officials and lawmakers.
Obama now leads Clinton in the popular vote and the number of pledged delegates and
superdelegates who will decide the nominee at the party's convention in August.
Clinton has seen her superdelegate advantage steadily erode since the nominating contests
began Jan. 3, when Obama won the Iowa caucus. At that time, Clinton had more than twice as
many superdelegates as Obama. With Obama's latest endorsements, he has 276 superdelegates to
Clinton's 274.5, according to a Bloomberg tally based on lists and public statements from
both campaigns.
``It's a crucial psychological milestone,'' said Anthony Corrado, a senior fellow at the
Brookings Institution in Washington who specializes in elections. ``From the very beginning,
Senator Clinton has held the superdelegate lead and it had been widely expected that would
be her ace in the hole.''
With six contests left to allocate 217 pledged delegates, neither candidate can claim the
nomination without superdelegate support.

Mont Blanc: NICHT der höchste Berg in Europa
in: http://justitia-veritas.skynetblogs.be (105 SHOCK BLOGS)
P.G., Winterbesteigung des höchsten Berges Europas, Lux. Wort 23/04/02
Luxemburger Seilschaft auf dem 5642 m hohen Elbrus.
Als höchster Berg Europas galt lange Zeit der in den Alpen an der
französisch-italienischen Grenze gelegene 4807 m hohe Mont Blanc.

Delays and strikes, strikes and delays.
It is very apparent that the only things keeping this artificial state
company alive is subsidies, and the proposed tanker deal with the USAF.
Airbus workers threaten strike action

Airbus SAS's French unionized employees threatened further strikes if
the planemaker's parent company presses ahead with plans to sell two
factories in France.
Workers at Airbus, the world's largest maker of commercial aircraft,
held demonstrations on April 24 and April 29 to protest the plan to sell
the factories. Airbus shelved a parallel project to sell plants in
Germany because the buyer withdrew its offer. Airbus is owned by
European Aeronautic, Defence & Space Co.

Air Canada's fleet renewal plans flew into a major headwind Thursday with Boeing Co. saying
it will deliver the airline's first 787 Dreamliners at least two years later than originally
planned.
The news has the country's largest carrier reconsidering its scheduling and expansion plans
for those years, now that it will be forced to continue to fly older, less fuel-efficient
planes at a time when high fuel prices are sending the profits of carriers around the globe
into a tailspin.
Montie Brewer, Air Canada's chief executive, said the airline would seek compensation for
the delays, but would not say whether it wanted cash, a discount on pricing or some other
form of redress.
"We were counting on these aircraft," Brewer said in a conference call Thursday, "especially
in an environment with high fuel prices."
Air Canada had expected to take delivery of its 37 787s between 2010...

Airbus says possible A380 delay next year -Emirates
Tue May 6, 2008 10:36am BST
DUBAI, May 6 (Reuters) - Dubai's Emirates airline [EMAIR.UL], the
biggest customer for Airbus's A380 aircraft, said the European
plane-maker notified that it may face further delays in the delivery of
the world's largest passenger plane.
"It's very serious," Emirates President Tim Clark told Reuters by
telephone in Dubai on Tuesday. "This will do us serious damage."
Airbus sent a letter to Emirates informing it of possible delays in its
"wave 2" delivery of the A380. This would apply to A380s being delivered
to Emirates in April next year, Clark said. "We'll know in two to three
weeks if it's ok or not," Clark said. Airbus did not explain why the
deliveries could be delayed, Clark said.
Emirates expects to receive four A380s this year, one before the end of
March and another 12 in the year to March 31, 2009.
Airbus declined to comment.
