Scott, I appreciate the defense.

Well, not really. While I do what I can, my exposure to the field tends
to be limited to the high end: very few vendors, tough problems, small
customer base, security, etc. It is not the normal computer scene, it
has pluses and minuses. I have built up trust in certain communities.

I've had considerable luck being born in California, moving to the Bay
Area, working closely with Stanford, having the CHM move locally,
getting my management to sign off spending time with them, etc.

I have far less experience and knowledge in area where you don't see me
comment like personal computers and PC software (compared a bit to
personal workstations), databases, non mainstream mainframes, Midis like
10s, 20s, and 6s. And I have a day job, some of which is not for
discussion for various reasons of trust. I still have to catch up from
the last trips to DC and Pasadena, etc.

For instance, I might not like working on Unisys systems, but I
recognize that they have an important history independent of what I
think, and they have to be protected from short sighted PC and mini people.
They are merely short signed.

Well the joke with the CHM staff who lurk with Al's exception are
health, immigration, etc. It's an unmoderated alt.* group, and Barb
won't sustain foot into the real *.politics.* groups. You guys are an
easy audience.

The so-called perfection of the 10 got taken to LISP machines (3 different
vendors) and likely performance-wise to the LLNL S-1 which was never
finished.

I try.

I am amused that your net post to Barb was:
>Why? Why can't you just say what you mean? Are you saying
>that farmers need not 'grow crops' in order to 'grow meat'?

I get that, too.
