It's blank prose.

I never did either. And I used to have to. But after 15 years of Usenet, I
find I _can_ type while looking mostly at the screen. Except when my DSL line
is deciding to be only twice dialup speed so that I'm still typing faster
than the cursor moves, in which case I have to look every so often to get
back on track after a correction.

  You call that a computer?

Author: Adam Funk

This is a computer!

The prototype was an odd assortment of tanks, pipes, sluices and
valves, with water pumped around the machine by a motor
cannibalised from the windscreen wiper of a Lancaster bomber. Bits
of filed-down Perspex and fishing line were used to channel the
coloured dyes that mimicked the flow of income round the economy
into consumer spending, taxes, investment and exports.

I don't think that this is a coincidence. [anonymous]

Cliff Click on a Scalable Non-Blocking Coding Style
http://www.infoq.com/news/2008/05/click_non_blocking

from above:

The major components of Click’s work are:

...

2. Atomic-update on those array words (using
java.util.concurrent.Atomic.*). The Atomic update will use either
Compare and Sweep (CAS) if the processor is Azul/Sparc/x86, or Load
Linked/Store-conditional (LL/SC) on the IBM platform.

... snip ..

or maybe compare & *swap* ... invented by charlie (i.e. CAS are charlie's
initials) when he was doing work on multiprocessing fine-grain locking
for cp67 virtual machine system at the science center. misc. past posts
mentioning smp and/or compare&swap
