I am trying to write a breif history for wikipedia of the orignial
Stanford University Network 3M workstation designed in the very early
1980's.
Here is what I have written so far:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The original SUN (Stanford University Network) 3M workstation was
designed to be a low cost ($10,000) personal workstation for ECAD
design work. The design goal was a 1 MIPS processor, 1 Megabyte of
memory and 1 Mega pixel vector graphics display. Ethernet was
included. The initial workstation was designed by Ralph Gorin and
then given to Andy Bechtolsheim to work out the details. Eventually
10 3M workstations were built in the 1981-1982 time frame. After the
initial 10, Stanford declined to build any more. Andy Bechtolsheim...

Why the Air Force Bugs Gates
http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1733747,00.html

from above:

To the horror of some in the Air Force, Gates cited the late John Boyd,
who attained the rank of Air Force colonel, as an example young officers
should emulate. Gates called him "a brilliant, eccentric and stubborn
character" who had to bulldoze his way through the Air Force hierarchy
to launch the F-16 fighter, now regarded as perhaps the best value in
the skies.

  YALD (Yet Another Language Discussion)

Author: Jim Mehl
Date: Apr 23, 2008 07:41

There is something that I have wondered about for a while. During
their times PL/I, Algol 68, and Ada were much criticized for being
too complex. But I never hear that about C++, which is the most
complex language in history. Why is that? Is it because we have
learned to deal with complexity? Is it cultural?
