Just read a great post in this group about no child left undrugged.
Having worked in mental health for several years as a behavior
specialist, and worked directly with bipolar children, I can confirm
the amount of misdiagnosis as well as over medicating of the
children. It's so important to have open communication with all
members of your clinical team, and voice any concerns. Getting more
than one diagnosis from different doctors is also recommended. A few
years ago I had a candid conversation with a psychiatrist from a
leading medical school, who shared his concerns to me in these areas.
Parents must take a proactive approach in positive parenting, as well
as being directly involved in any medical decisions. It's important
to question any authority when unsure. My blog has additional
information about positive parenting strategies. http://www.childrenbehaviors.com/
