Idiot things Scientologists say.

Occasionally we read of a person who commits a crime while under the
care of a psychiatrist. This is not that surprising as one becomes a
patient by being sick- and sometimes sick people do sick things.

Does this mean psychiatry should be banned?

Look at it another way.

Sometimes we hear of a child who dies while firefighters battle to get
her out of the building.

Does this mean that the firefighter started the blaze?

No, he did not- and the psychiatrist did not make his patient sick.

Mentally ill people are a danger to themselves and to others. Should
an individual be detained against their will?

Over the last twenty years there has been a tendency in the UK to
issue sectioning orders only as a last resort.

On occasion an individual will be treated and released- and then go on
to commit terrible crimes.

This is not surprising. The patient was sectioned because he was a
danger but became worse once he was released.

There is only one way to guarantee that this never happens, and this
is to lock up every slightly odd person 'just in case'.
