In the light of what is happening not just in Burma at the moment but in
many other countries, this is appalling,if not obscene. It shouldn't
happen. I waste nothing. We don't have left overs. This makes me so angry.
What a waste: Britain throws away £10bn of food every year
Global food shortages, soaring prices and alarm over the environment.
But every day, Britain throws away 220,000 loaves of bread, 1.6m
bananas, 550,000 chickens, 5.1m potatoes, 660,000 eggs, 1.2m sausages
and 1.3m yoghurts

My sis told me that where she lives, homeless folk and the like, sorta
know when to go to the back door of restaurants, and the cooks will hand
out leftovers to them. It is proably illegal. I know the city school
system here has a rule that all left over food has to be destroyed. I
would guess there is a similar law for restaurants. They can't give
food to shelters, here either. '
Somehow the govt. surplus cheese can be sold to the poor, though. I
don't know how it works. I just know the recipients of the cheese will
take it and sell it to folks who can't buy it otherwise. It is said to
be very good cheese.
Once when my sis was confined to house by her health, the handyman she
had previously hired would come to her door and hand her a bag of rolls
or some other food he had gotten...

That is something I have pondered--and I have no good answer, alas.

Absolutely!!!!!! I hear projections of how the world's population is
going to increase and wonder why people don't get the point.
Of course, then I think of how some countries don't even repopulate,
which creates problems. And how folks in other countries have numerous

Our state just made a law that restaurants and that no longer have to
throw unused food away, we now can give it to shelters and other places

Well that is marvellous Marsha, I do know that although it isn't exactly
free many of the larger Supermarkets here have a policy of reducing many
items to just a very small amount in order for less fortunate people to
buy it. Still not good enough but a stop in the right direction.
I like what is happening in your State.
Bobbie.
