We are scheduled for 6 to 8 inches of snow from midnight through tomorrow
afternoon.

They farm catfish now and they are wonderful, a nice firm fish raised on
clean feed. I do a green curry with catfish, eggplant, green peppers and
sweet onions.

According to an article in the Savannah Morning News on January 31,
2008, "Hunting accidents spiked in Georgia during the 2007-08 season,
and four of the five fatal incidents involved children or teenagers."
"This has been an unusual year," said Wildlife Resources Division
Capt. James Bell, who is the coordinator of the state's Hunter Safety
Program. "We've never had that many kids in accidents in the last 10
years."
The season's five casualties included an 8-year-old boy killed by a
shotgun blast; a 12-year-old boy who shot and killed his father; a 14-
year-old killed while squirrel hunting; and another 14-year-old shot
and killed by his brother, who mistook him for a deer.
"Authorities investigated 21 serious accidents during the 2007-08
season that included - in addition to the five fatal shootings - four
non-fatal shootings and 12 tree stand accidents."
What pains us the most is the loss of young people in what is supposed
to be a recreational activity.
Let's hope that this year, fewer young people end up on the wrong side
of the hunting season in Georgia.

When the GOP catches a cold, everybody at Fox News is ailing. No
wonder its ratings are in the pits. ~ Salon.com
Jan. 31, 2008 | My guess is that Fox News guru Roger Ailes has been
reaching for the Tums more often than usual early in the New Year, and
there are lots of reasons for the hovering angst.
Let's take an extended multiple choice quiz. Right now, which of the
following topics is likely causing the discomfort inside Ailes' Fox
News empire?
A) CNN's resurgence as the go-to cable destination for election
coverage.
B) The unmistakably sunken candidacy of Fox News' favored son, Rudy
Giuliani.
C) The still-standing candidacy of Fox News nemesis and well-funded
antiwar GOP candidate Rep. Ron Paul.
D) The Democratic candidates' blanket refusal to debate on Fox News
during the primary season.

Former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker, the latest big name to
endorse Sen. Barack Obama, could give the Illinois Democrat a boost by
lending his gravitas in the financial world to a presidential
candidate whose biggest hurdle is to convince voters he is experienced
enough.
"After 30 years in government, serving under five Presidents of both
parties and chairing two non-partisan commissions on the Public
Service, I have been reluctant to engage in political campaigns. The
time has come to overcome that reluctance," Volcker, a Democrat, said
in a statement today. "However, it is not the current turmoil in
markets or the economic uncertainties that have impelled my decision.
Rather, it is the breadth and depth of challenges that face our nation
at home and abroad. Those challenges demand a new leadership and a
fresh approach."
