Started watching "Rose of Versailles" -

I know others have commented, way back, and I was too lazy to research
it so if I'm making the same observations -

1 - no doubt I'll be called on it
2 - oh well!

I've seen the first 3 episodes - ye gods! The opening reeks of Utena -
Oscar/Utena wrapped up in rose thorns while roses are all through the
credits and the songs is about roses!

The Saionji-type character is much more likeable; the Nanami-type is
well, just as evil and bitchy. :-)

I'm looking forward to seeing it all tho' - despite the cheesy
animation style (and the fact that they couldn't animate animals at
all!) of the time and the incredibly melodramatic music and reactions -
it's actually very good. Oscar is a very interesting character.

I've also decided that the closing theme where the name Oscar is yelled
out is where Koyasu came up with the "ASUKA!" yell that Miki's Youji
does in Weiss - it sounds exactly the same! ^_^

I'll have more as I continue watching . . .

I thoroughly enjoyed Rose of Versailles. I watched it last year
sometime (yay for Live-eviL), and while it took me awhile to get into
it, once I did...I watched 37 episodes in 48 hours. >_< In my defense,
I was having problems with insomnia at the time, so what better way to
use the time than to get through a classic anime.

Beware the sparkles of doom. You'll understand this at a later point.

Really, I didn't like the show for awhile because it was so much
story/plot and not enough character development (particularly Oscar).
Once they *finally* really looked more than skin deep at Oscar, I began
to really enjoy it.
