The Republican presidential candidate signalled his intentions by using his
first weekend of campaigning since his party's convention to launch a
political raid into the heart of Reagan-Democrat country, home of the fabled
blue collar voters who Mr Reagan captured from the Democrats in the 1980s.

Mr McCain, and particularly Mrs Palin, met with a rapturous reception as
they held a rally in Macomb County, Michigan, where pollsters first
identified the breed of patriotic conservative, blue collar workers who the
McCain camp now believes hold the key to victory in November.

On Friday night in Sterling Heights, Mr McCain's selection of Mrs Palin
appeared to have utterly transformed his campaign and made easier the task
of converting Reagan Democrats to McCain Democrats.

Interviews with the two pastors she has been most closely associated with
here in her hometown - she now attends the Wasilla Bible Church, though she
keeps in touch with Mr. Riley and recently spoke at an event at his former
church - and with friends and acquaintances who have worshipped with her
point to a firm conclusion: her foundation and source of guidance is the
Bible, and with it has come a conviction to be God's servant.

"Just be amazed at the umbrella of this church here, where God is going to
send you from this church," Ms. Palin told the gathering in June of young
graduates of a ministry program at the Assembly of God Church, a video of
which has been posted on YouTube.

"Believe me," she said, "I know what I am saying - where God has sent me,
from underneath the umbrella of this church, throughout the state."

Janet Kincaid, who has known Ms. Palin for about 15 years and worked with
her on some Wasilla town boards and commissions when Ms. Palin was mayor
here, said Ms. Palin's spiritual path, from the Assembly of God to Wasilla
Bible, has had a consistent theme.

Democrats are not caring for their Stars and Stripes. At least that's the
message out of John McCain's campaign.

McCain supporters, claiming they rescued 12,000 miniature American flags
from the site of Barack Obama's nomination acceptance speech last Thursday,
redistributed the orphan flags to audience members ahead of a McCain rally
in Colorado Springs on Saturday.

The move was an overt swipe at Obama from a campaign whose motto has been
"country first." But Democratic convention organizers claimed the flags were
not going to be discarded - but instead were snatched from the site of Obama's
historic address to carry out a "cheap political stunt."

Sarah Palin MIA on the Sunday News Shows.

Sarah Palin will be missing from action Sunday a.m.

As is The Ticket's custom, a post listing the entire roster of
appearances on this Sunday's interview programs will pop up Saturday at
noon PDT (3 p.m. EDT).

But here's an advance heads up, in part because of who WON'T be found on
any of the chat shows.

Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin campaigning with the
top of the Republican ticket, John McCain Three of the four now-official
candidates on the major-party presidential tickets are scheduled to sit
down for questions: Democrat Barack Obama on ABC's "This Week," his
running mate, Joe Biden, on NBC's "Meet the Press" and Republican John
McCain on CBS' "Face the Nation."

Absent from this list, of course, is the GOP's star of the moment, the
not-so-long-ago obscure governor of Alaska who is McCain's running mate,
Sarah Palin.
