Studies: Money better spent helping family than on foster care

DAYTONA BEACH -- Shifting more money to help families -- whose children
otherwise would be taken away by social agencies -- would help save on
the billions of dollars child abuse costs the country each year, a study
released Tuesday shows.

Local experts agree it's less costly to provide services to families in
their homes instead of the long-term impacts of separating children from
their families and placing them in foster care.

New national studies show child abuse and neglect cost an estimated
$103.8 billion in 2007 because of long-range implications to children
and families, including hospitalizations, mental health counseling and
costs to law enforcement, jails and court systems.

Looks like our righttard pals are all having a collective depressive
episode, as they were expecting a WWF-style rumble, and instead got an
intelligent "conversation/debate" between the two people of whom one
will be the next president.

It's obvious that the usual catcalls and puerile posts won't occur,
because the far right loonies may have finally realized after the CNN
debate in Hollywood that their "fifteen minutes of fame" has been
expired for a long, long time, and they'll disappear now, just like
the Birchers and the other far right wackos did at the end of the
Eisenhower era.

The pendulum indeed does swing both ways.

Now THERE'S a sign that the neocons are falling on their swords! I
like how he was blubbering on CNN about being insulted by the
Democratic crowd at the Kodak. They SHOULD have given him a blanket
party...except, possibly, no one had any blankets big enough!

Huckabee gets evangelicals. Someone tell me that evangelicals are

By the way, being "anti-" is a major thing wrong with the GOP today.
It is based around having people vote for the "lesser of two evils".

In the final debate of the Democratic presidential primary process,
Senators Hillary Clinton of New York and Barack Obama of Illinois
squared off in Burbank, CA. Seats in the Kodak Theater were rumored to
be going for $1,000 each as the two appeared alone on a debate stage
for the first time in the contest.

The pre-Super Duper Tuesday debate got off with a conciliatory note
from Sen. Obama.

"I was friends with Hillary Clinton before we started campaign, and I
will be friends with her after this campaign is done," he noted.

But he added that there was a choice facing voters.

"It is about the past versus the future," he said, hinting that he
represented a new choice.

The Clinton campaign may be stopping President Bill from taking on
Senator Barack Obama in his public appearances on his wife's behalf.
But that doesn't mean he can't go on the rampage against '9/11
hecklers.'

"9/11 was not an inside job, it was an Osama Bin Laden job," President
Clinton proclaimed in the campaign stop.

"We look like idiots, folks, denying that the people who murdered our
fellow citizens didn't when they are continuing to murder people all
around the world," he added. "So we heard from you, you go away."
