Now with Saddam long gone and chaos reigning in what's
left of Iraq, oil prices are making Iran very, very
rich. Iran is now in the process of kicking the USA
to the curb (they just flushed the dollar) and
is making new friends and alliances all over their region.
George W. Bush is Iran's best ally. Go ahead
and rattle you saber a little more, Georgie,
and enrich Iran even more. Chump.

All I know is that the "Hong Kongers" in Canada who I've spent time with are
the ultimate capitalists.
In Hong Kong, there isn't wefare of food stamps, there is no "social
security". There is unmittigated wealth, or poverty. Sink, or swim.
No such thing as a corporate bail out or "government rebates".
It makes the USA capitalist empire look like a socialist gulag.

For those of you who have been watching the series "Carrier" on PBS and
caught the song being played at the end of Episode 9: "Get Home-itis",
here is that song in it's entirety. A sailor, Kenny "Mana" Vida, from
Maui accompanies himself on ukulele as he sings "Never Stop Searching
for You", a song he wrote. The crew who filmed the song, spliced in
scenes from the family of one of the pilots on the Nimitz.
I know you'll like it:

CIA 'preparing public for Iran war'
Thu, 01 May 2008
The CIA accuses Iran of 'facilitating the killing' of US troops in Iraq in
what is seen as another attempt to prepare the public for war.
In a Wednesday lecture at the Kansas State University, CIA Director Michael
Hayden claimed that slaying US military forces has become the political
strategy of Iran's highest governmental officials.
"It is my opinion, it is the policy of the Iranian government, approved to
highest level of that government, to facilitate the killing of Americans in
Iraq," maintained Hayden, just a day after the US steamed a second American
aircraft carrier into the Persian Gulf.
"Just make sure there's clarity on that," the CIA director continued.
His comments come at a time when a recent CBS report indicates that the US
Defense Department had ordered military commanders to develop new war plans
against Tehran, a claim echoed by top American analysts.
"I believe George Bush and Dick Cheney plan to take care of Iran before they
leave office," former CIA analyst Ray McGovern said in an interview
published in the Charleston Gazette on Wednesday.

Gates says U.S. could eye expanded Afghanistan role
Fri May 2, 2008 7:15pm EDT
By David Morgan
TEXARKANA, Texas (Reuters) - U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said
on Friday the United States could consider taking over NATO's command
in southern Afghanistan, where some NATO allies have been reluctant to
provide combat forces.
But Gates said the Pentagon would consult closely with NATO allies,
particularly those countries with combat forces in the southern
region, before making any decision to alter its military role in the
country.
Southern Afghanistan, which has seen the worst of a rising tide of
Taliban violence, is now under NATO command. Britain, Canada, the
Netherlands and Australia all have forces in the region.

File this one under, "Greedy Christians get fleeced".

Calif. Man Accused of Targeting Christians in $25M Nationwide Ponzi Scheme
SANTA ANA, Calif. — Federal investigators arrested a man Friday on a
charge of wire fraud and alleged he ran a Ponzi scheme that netted more
than $25 million by targeting Christian investors nationwide.
Jon G. Ervin, 61, of Mission Viejo, was named Thursday in a criminal
complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Santa Ana. A federal
magistrate set bail at $1 million during a brief court appearance Friday
and Ervin was not immediately released.
Ervin's public defender, Leon Peterson, didn't immediately return a call
for comment.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures
Trading Commission also filed lawsuits against Ervin and his company,
Safevest LLC, on Thursday and obtained federal orders freezing their assets.

I don't even know where to begin with this one.
First of all, we have *conservative* Christians condemning Christians on
the right *and the left* for "using faith" to express political views
without regard to the truth of the Bible.
That just boggles the mind and insults the intelligence of *anyone* who
has been paying attention for the last twenty or so years.
It's like the kid who gets caught with his hand in the cookie jar and
then tries to share the blame with his little brother Jimmy who has both
arms in a cast.
-----------------------------------------------
Evangelicals say faith is now too political
Conservative Christian leaders who believe the word "evangelical" has
lost its religious meaning plan to release a starkly self-critical
document saying the movement has become too political and has diminished
the Gospel through its approach to the culture wars.
The statement, called "An Evangelical Manifesto," condemns Christians on
the right and left for "using faith" to express political views without
regard to the truth of the Bible, according to a draft of the document
obtained Friday by The Associated Press.

Editorial: McCain was off his mark on bridge link
Sen. John McCain on Wednesday blamed the I-35W bridge collapse that
killed 13 people in Minneapolis on pork-barrel spending in Congress.
By Thursday, he was backing off his assertion.
The Republican presidential candidate was wrong to use the I-35W
bridge collapse tragedy for a political purpose.
His assessment was wrong for several reasons.
The preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board
states a combination of a design flaw undersized steel plates and
a heavy load of construction materials were the primary cause of the
bridge tragedy.
Democrats on Thursday criticized McCains bridge comments.
And Republican Sen. Norm Coleman said McCain was wrong.
McCains comments were at odds with Gov. Tim Pawlenty who told his
critics quit exploiting the bridge tragedy to advance their political
agenda.
Maybe Pawlenty should have a talk with McCain.
