Leader of GOP convention quits after Myanmar ties reported

The man picked by the John McCain campaign to run the 2008 Republican
National Convention resigned Saturday after a report that his lobbying
firm used to represent the military regime in Myanmar.

Doug Goodyear resigned as convention coordinator and issued a two
sentence statement:

"Today I offered the convention my resignation so as not to become a
distraction in this campaign. I continue to strongly support John
McCain for president, and wish him the best of luck in this campaign."

Goodyear, chief executive of lobbying firm DCI Group, resigned a few
hours after Newsweek posted a story posted online that the company was
paid $348,000 in 2002 and 2003 to represent Myanmar's junta.

A federal sting of four companies accused of arranging fraudulent
marriages for U.S. citizenships, complete with wedding photos of
brides in gowns and elaborate fake cakes, has netted more than 80
arrests, authorities said Friday.

Immigrants, Americans and company officials were among the 83
arrested. The immigrants paid as much as $10,000, while the U.S.
citizens were offered up to $2,500, U.S. Attorney Robert O'Neill said.

The couples were coached on how to pass immigration checks with fake
answers, even though in some cases they didn't speak the same language
as their purported spouse, officials said. U.S. Citizenship and
Immigration Services officials who review each citizenship-conferring
marriage to ensure legitimacy tipped off federal agents in many cases.

ABC is reporting today that John McCain is considering changing his
position on abortion to embrace the party language that bans all
abortions, including in cases of rape and incest.

It’s pretty hard to imagine a flip-flop that is more blatant than
that, but with John McCain, it’s not really a surprise. This is, after
all, a man who kissed up to his mortal enemy, Putsch, and who bleakly
sold out on his general stand against the vitriolic maniacs at the
fringes of religious nuttery, such as “Christocrat” Pastor Rod
Parsley, or the Rev. John Hagee.

It would destroy the GOP if McCain takes that final, unmistakable
step, since it will send a clear message to millions of moderate
conservatives and formerly mainstream Republicans that the party is
still firmly in the control of right wing maniacs.

Think you'll stand a chance, armed with your Wal-Mart pepper spray,
against hordes of hungry illegal aliens (a significant number of whom
will be better armed than our worse-than-useless, "we can't get
involved in immigration enforcement" local police) coming for YOUR
food?

After all, the illegals have families to feed.

BIG families.

BIG families raised in a culture in which the use of extreme
violence is a common and accepted means of getting what one wants,
such as in the case of the illegal who murdered his 60-year-old U.S.-
citizen car mechanic this past week in California (the illegal felt
the American hadn't done a good enough job and wanted his money back)
or any of the other slew of illegal alien violent crime reports which
pepper even the most pro-illegal-alien-invasion corporate media
newspapers.
