We torch bearers feel the heat too
By Jonathan Birchall

When the Olympics last came to Asia in 1988, I carried the Olympic flame,
running in the small city of Suncheon in South Korea. At the time, I was a
BBC correspondent, and the Seoul Olympic Organising Committee had the idea
of getting foreign journalists involved.
Wearing a white uniform and a very 1980s headband, I jogged proudly past the
citizenry, holding the bronze torch and its spluttering chemical flame
aloft, for about a quarter of a mile. Retrospectively, I feel a little
guilty. I reported enthusiastically on the relay as it crossed Korea. But my
run was, in the end, another manifestation of the political and cultural
subtext that is always present in the ceremonies of the modern Olympic
movement.

A nude photo of French first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy was sold on
Thursday in New York for $91,000. However, a nude photograph of
British supermodel Kate Moss narrowly beat the nude picture of
France's first lady when it sold for $97,000.
The U.S.A didn't have an entrant in the competition. Reported this is
because America is busy right now honing it's warmongering and Bible
thumping skills.

The nuts and bolts of eating right maintaining a healthy weight is not
all that complicated. In fact, it is a good bet that most people know
pretty well what is best. Hence, losing weight the natural way should
not be a problem at all.
Consequently, a reasonable approach for losing weight naturally is to
stick to a diet that is high in complex carbohydrates, high in fiber,
moderate in protein, and low in fat.
A complex carbohydrate is a baked potato. Fat is the sour cream and
butter you should not put on it. Fiber is vegetables. Fat is the oil
you should not fry them in. Protein is a lean cut of meat. Fat is the
gravy you should not pour over it.
Moreover, health experts say that dietary fat promotes weight gain
because it is a very dense source of calories. Also, when you consume
excess calories from dietary fat, you store those calories as body fat
more efficiently than excess calories from other sources.
On the other hand, it can also help you lose weight naturally if you
will not fall into the so-called "fat-free" trap. Manufacturers keep
coming out with low-fat or fat-free versions of their best-selling
foods, but Americans keep getting fatter anyway.

Is Petraeus Quote the Most Revealing of Entire War?
In 2003, Gen. David Petraeus, then little-known, asked Rick Atkinson of The
Washington Post in Iraq: "Tell me how this ends." It soon became his
"mantra." But as his testimony this week in Washington showed, he still does
not know the answer.
By Greg Mitchell
NEW YORK (April 09, 2008) -- What will end up being the most famous quote of
the Iraq war? Remember, President Bush did not actually say "Mission
Accomplished." Perhaps Vice President Cheney's "final throes" will take the
prize. But increasingly, as the significance of Gen. David Petraeus grows
(seemingly by the minute), it seems possible that it might end up being his
once-obscure 2003 remark to a well-known newspaper reporter: "Tell me how
this ends." It was cited again on Tuesday by Andrew Bacevich in his New York
Times Op-Ed contribution.
Petraeus said that line when he was a Major General directing the 101st
Airborne during the U.S. invasion but, for some, his testimony today before
Congress suggested that he still did not have an answer to it.
