Thousands in Baghdad Protest Basra Assault
By James Glanz and Graham Bowley
The New York Times
Thursday 27 March 2008
Baghdad - In direct confrontation with the American-backed
government in Iraq, thousands of supporters of the powerful Shiite
cleric Moktada al-Sadr and his Mahdi Army militia took to the streets
of Baghdad on Thursday to protest the Iraqi Army's assault on the
southern port city of Basra, as intense fighting continued there for a
third day.
In Basra, there seemed to be no breakthrough in the fighting by
either side. As much as half of the city remained under militia
control, hospitals in some parts of the city were reported full, and
the violence continued to spread. Clashes were reported all over the
city and in locations 12 miles south of Basra.

Siegelman released from jail, pending appeal
RAW STORY
Published: Thursday March 27, 2008
UPDATE: Judge releases ex-Alabama Gov. on bond pending appeal
A federal appeals court approved the release of former Alabama Gov.
Don Siegelman on bond Thursday while he appeals his convictions in a
corruption case.
The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said the former governor had
raised "substantial questions of fact and law" in challenging his
conviction.
The once-popular Democrat began serving a sentence of more than seven
years in June on his conviction on six bribery-related counts and one
obstruction count. He has been serving the sentence at a federal
prison in Oakdale, La.

Poll: 1 in 10 get Obama's religion wrong
Poll: 1 in 10 Voters Mistakenly Think Obama Is Muslim
Mar 27, 2008 15:51 EST
One in 10 voters believes Barack Obama is Muslim, a mistaken
impression that lingers across party lines, a poll showed Wednesday.
Fourteen percent of Republicans, 10 percent of Democrats and 8 percent
of independents mistakenly think he is Muslim, according to a survey
by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center. Just over half of each group
correctly identified him as Christian, while about a third said they
don't know his religion.
The false rumor that the Democratic presidential candidate and
Illinois senator is Muslim has been fanned on the Internet and
conservative talk radio.
It has persisted despite the recent controversy over divisive remarks
by his longtime pastor at the Trinity United Church of Christ, the
Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Those saying they have heard a lot about
Wright's comments are about as likely as others to say they think
Obama is Muslim, the poll showed.

He is just -- that -- fucking -- stupid.
People are killed and maimed at the altar of his stupidity.
One life against thousands.
You make the call.

Dems are turning out in record numbers this primary season. Nearly
twice as many in the overall count...
Wonder what's up with that?

Maliki gave the Shiite militias "three days" to give up their guns (tell
that to Charlton Heston and see where it gets you). That means that
Saturday is the deadline.

You're unlikely to get a rise of the HYPOCRITES in t.p.g., who represent an
assortment of Bush-loving assholes who claim to love the 2nd Amendment but
applaud his disarming of Iraqis who really do want the weapons for the most
part to defend themselves against the terrorists that the bastard Bush let
in.
