Lessons From the Surge

There are lessons to be learned from the dazzling success of the surge
strategy in Iraq.

Lesson one is that just about no mission is impossible for the United
States military. A year ago it was widely thought, not just by the new
Democratic leaders in Congress but also in many parts of the Pentagon,
that containing the violence in Iraq was impossible. Now we have seen
it done.

We have seen this before in American history. George Washington's
forces seemed on the brink of defeat many times in the agonizing years
before Yorktown. Abraham Lincoln's generals seemed so unsuccessful in
the Civil War that in August 1864 it was widely believed he would be
defeated for re-election. But finally Lincoln found the right
generals. Sherman took Atlanta and marched to the sea; Grant pressed
forward in Virginia.

Below is an article that just rubs it in........Plus they are STILL playing
that security announcement, "Code Orange has been declared.....etc...." over
and over every 15 minutes throughout every airport in the country 24/7 for
the past 6 years. It is insulting, humilitating, infuriating, especially
to those who know 9/11 was an inside/outside job, devoid of hijackers, and
the only terrorists are in D.C. I hate having to fly now.

WASHINGTON, Dec 20 (Reuters) - Airport security lines can annoy passengers,
but there is no evidence that they make flying any safer, U.S. researchers
reported on Thursday.

A team at the Harvard School of Public Health could not find any studies
showing whether the time-consuming process of X-raying carry-on luggage
prevents hijackings or attacks.

GOP's 'only suckers pay' mentality deeply offensive

Wouldn't it be fun to do a money-dance around town, throwing borrowed
hundred dollar bills to passersby, while arranging to have others pay
for the adventure?

That in essence has been the Republicans' two-step:

Spend money you don't have, and cut taxes so you have even less — then
let future generations foot the bills.

The beauty part is that the people who will eventually pay are
currently more focused on their Tickle Me Ernie dolls than their
future obligations as taxpayers.

There is something fundamentally immoral about this arrangement, which
is one reason Democrats won back Congress in November 2006.

A few genuinely conservative Republicans understand the fiscal
depravity of spending and not taxing.

But in the view of the party leaders, only suckers pay their bills.

And they were out tapping their toes last week.

New Bin Laden Tape Threatens Israel, Sunni Arabs
Osama bin Laden warned Iraq's Sunni Arabs against fighting al-Qaida and
promised to expand the terror group's holy war to Israel in a new audiotape
Saturday, threatening "blood for blood, destruction for destruction."

Most of the 56-minute tape dealt with Iraq, apparently al-Qaida's latest
attempt to keep supporters in Iraq unified at a time when the U.S. military
claims to have al-Qaida's Iraq branch on the run.

Look up SITE and Rita Katz (the person who runs SITE) in Wikipedia to
understand better where this is coming from. These are the folks who keep
coming up with these tapes. The last one was conveniently released during
the discussion for Congressional funding of the "surge". Now this one comes
just prior to the Iowa primaries.

When Benazir Bhutto returned to Pakistan to take a stand for democratic
government, 3 million Pakistanis greeted her at the airport.

Now she is dead.

At 6:15 in this video, Benazir Bhutto refers in a matter-of-fact manner to
"the man who killed Osama bin Laden."

If this was a misstatement, she did not correct herself, nor did the
interviewer call attention to it.

Before she was murdered, there was another attack on Benazir Bhutto's life.
She told David Frost that she was not even allowed to file a police report
let alone get a serious investigation of the attack.

She specifically stated that she wanted the finances of the terrorists
traced.

Saeed Sheikh is the man Bhutto refers to in this interview.

He is charged with killing Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl who
tracked the relationship between Pakistani intelligence and terrorist
groups. He is also suspected of having wired money to Mohamed Atta on behalf
of Pakistani intelligence right before the 9/11 attacks.
