Potent Pills: Doctor critical of overuse of over-prescribing
Gary Craig

(December 9, 2007) — In 2003, Livingston County social service officials
decided to ensure that any foster child prescribed psychotropic drugs
could safely use it. So they contracted Dr. Martin Irwin to review every
prescription of a psychotropic drug to a foster child.
Irwin, who lives in Manlius, near Syracuse, is a leading critic of the
prescription of psychotropic drugs to children. He does not completely
oppose the use. Many times, he said, some medications are needed.
But too often, Irwin contended in an interview, pediatricians and
psychiatrists too quickly turn to drugs when other options, such as more
therapy and counseling, could resolve a child's troubles.
Within the foster care population, he maintained, the use of the drugs
is out of control because there is little oversight. Plus, he said, many
foster children understandably exhibit difficult behavior, and drugs
provide a quick way to temper the episodes.

Potent Pills: More foster kids getting mood-altering drugs
Gary Craig
Staff writer
http://www.democratandchronicle.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071209/NEWS01/7...
(December 9, 2007) — When Laticia Anderson's son entered foster care in
2005, a social worker described the 4-year-old as "an extremely smart
little boy who loves school."
But over the next six months, as he was shuttled from an emergency
foster-care placement to two foster homes, his personality changed.
The boy would explode in tantrums, gouge his own flesh, even consider
killing himself. Social workers and pediatricians could not quell his
outbursts.
Frustrated, they resorted to Depakote, an anti-seizure medication
intended for adults but occasionally given to children to alter their moods.
And then her son's personality really changed, Anderson said. The boy
she knew as playful and exuberant was, when she visited him, distant and
withdrawn - "almost like a zombie."

I can't believe he'd say such an idiotic statement like he'd want to
quarantine AIDS patients back in 1992... 1992!!! You can't ((catch))
HIV/AIDS like you can a cold. It's *not* through skin-to-skin contact
or breathing on people (or toilet seats). You ((contract)) it through
sexual intercourse or by using contaminated needles. We've known this
LONG before 1992! Could you imagine on the early-'90s sitcom 'The
Fresh Prince Of Bel Air', having Will's character coming in wearing a
long surgeon's gown, gloves, hat and wearing gloves visiting a friend
who has HIV/AID? Nooooooo! He'd be more likely to BE the one to tell
an ignorant person that you don't "catch" the disease this way, not
doing it himself (in "A Very Special" episode that usually has 1
ignorant person being educated by the time the...

England's Guilt
by Joseph Goebbels
It is a major error to assume that England's plutocrats slipped into
the war against their will or even against their intentions. The
opposite is true. The English warmongers wanted the war and used all...

America is facing the biggest threat in history by Islam and illegal
aliens. And Hussein Obama is making the race for president into a circus
standing next to Oprah. Its just disgusting.

When GOP'rs "Do it" they go to Jail.
When disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff "did it" he went to prison. When
Congressman Duke Cunningham "did it" he went to prison. When Hillary does
it, the public will be dragged through endless legalistic arguments
quibbling over such minute points as "the meaning of the word 'is'." One
word that is not in the Clinton dictionary is "accountability."

I see CNN is abusing its position to push the Israeli agenda
yet again, sowing fear, doubt and uncertainty
about our intelligence services's ability to protect us.
I think we should just turn them off for a month.
