Meteorologist: Storm to likely cause power outages
By Mike Dwyer
Three pockets of freezing rain, the first of which hit Friday, will
wreak havoc on the region this weekend and likely cause widespread
power outages, a meteorologist said.
"This is a very significant event that's starting to unfold
here," said Gerry Claycomb, with the National Weather Service in
Springfield. "This is only the beginning."
He said a half-inch of ice will likely have accumulated Friday, a
quarter- to a half-inch Saturday, and half-inch to an inch on Sunday.
Combined, he said, the effects will be severe.
"A half-inch ice will bring down power lines," Claycomb said. "An
inch-and-a-half will probably bring down all the power lines."
