[The government of Ethiopia, acting as US proxy, invaded Somalia in
December, 2006. They planned to stay for three months, but still remain
today, as the African Union mostly failed to send replacement troops to
occupy the country. The quagmire has only gotten worse in the meanwhile,
and there seems little hope that it will end soon, and now the UN is
talking about sending a force of 27,000 "peacekeepers" to fight the
insurgency. But the US government prefers to lob missiles into the
country rather than risk ground troops, so everything is going great.--DC]

Somalia fighting prompts warning
Forty humanitarian agencies have warned of an impending catastrophe in
Somalia unless urgent action is taken.
They say 20,000 people continue to flee violence in the capital every month.
The warning comes ahead of a UN Security Council meeting to consider
sending 27,000 peacekeepers to Somalia to replace the stretched African
force.
