I've added a new column, "Socialism and Capitalism", to Nolan Chart:

It discusses the endless confusion that has resulted from the
re-definition of these terms.

  Nevada ACLU Backs RKBA

[While the idea that the Second Amendment only guarantees a "collective"
right to keep and bear arms, and thus only applies to the military,
never made any sense to me (why would you put that in the Bill in
Rights?), I never had a problem with the ACLU simply not taking Second
Amendment cases. Other groups can deal with them. But this is good to
see.--DC]

ACLU backs gun rights
The Associated Press
Article Launched: 07/11/2008 02:01:12 PM PDT

CARSON CITY, Nev. -- The American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada has
declared its support for an individual's right to bear arms, apparently
making it the first state affiliate to buck the national ACLU's position
on the Second Amendment.

The state board of directors reached the decision following a U.S.
Supreme Court ruling that the Second Amendment protects the rights of
individuals to own handguns.

IN THE SPIRIT OF INDEPENDENCE DAY
One nation, under me
Want your own country? Follow those who have started their own mini-states
By Colleen Mastony
Chicago Tribune reporter
July 3, 2008

DAYTON, Nev. -- The Republic of Molossia isn't on any road map, but if
you get lost along the way, you can always ring the president, who is
happy to give directions. "Take Route 341 over the mountains, and make a
left on Six Mile Canyon Road," explained His Excellency Kevin Baugh.
"And be careful of the speed trap as you're coming into Virginia City."

Not every dictator gives travel tips to the tourists. But Molossia isn't
any run-of-the-mill country. It's a micronation, a teeny republic that
consists of -- well, to be honest—Baugh's three-bedroom house and
1.3-acre yard.

Bush & Cheney Always Saw Iraq as a Sweetheart Oil Deal
By Noam Chomsky
Khaleej Times Online
July 12, 2008
http://www.alternet.org/story/91123/

The deal just taking shape between Iraq's Oil Ministry and four Western
oil companies raises critical questions about the nature of the U.S.
invasion and occupation of Iraq -- questions that should certainly be
addressed by presidential candidates and seriously discussed in the
United States, and of course in occupied Iraq, where it appears that the
population has little if any role in determining the future of its country.

'Resonant and unwavering'
Noam Chomsky talks to the 'Bangkok Post' about the Vietnam War, Burma
and the future of the human race
Story by STUART ALAN BECKER

He opposed the Vietnam War long before it was fashionable to do so. He
revolutionised the field of linguistics and helped spark the cognitive
revolution in psychology. He changed the way scientists approach the
study of the human mind.

His "Chomsky Hierarchy" is taught in basic computer science because it
offers insight into the nature of how languages are structured. His
theories of Generative and Universal Grammar indicate that the human
mind comes hard-wired with default settings that enable infants to
quickly learn any language spoken around them.
